2023 Novice Hurdlers

[fatherjohn]

The first of about 50 hard held maiden hurdle winners in the next 2 months

not gonna get giddy and part with money at this stage

will be interesting to see how demandrivingdouvan gets on next time out. that is where the hype started for mn and he's won as he liked. if you liked him before today enhanced the view and you'll be happy with some decent large prices that keep a dream alive until the next race at least. we have no idea what he could be...its fun to be excited for a little bit early on in the season

I have to say I don’t even find it that entertaining. They force too many videos out and end up with at least 3 previews for every race in the couple of months leading up to the festival. But they both have aspirations of being in racing media so I can’t begrudge them for their method, even if it’s not to my taste. ABW I really like as he can put a proper case forward for a horse and knows his form. Josh just feeds off second hand information and can’t even pronounce the names correctly. The most frustrating thing is that they seem to move markets!

Right that’s enough of being a mardy bugger like Quevega for the day.

As a cricket fan his pronunciation of benaud was a little grating

He butchers more names than Alan Brazil on TalkSport.

Christ lads. This forum was built on the excitement of the Cheltenham Festival, if we can't get excited by potential Festival horses now, then when can we?

We've gone from moaning about roll ups and building books to moaning about over reactions on here and on Twitter about a winning horse, who ultimately cpuldnt have done it amy easier! We've waited months for the NH season to start again properly, surely we can just enjoy it.

I appreciate we will all have different views on a horses ability and manner of victory, like today's with Marine Nationale but I've seen plenty on here give out when the likes of Samcro 'only beat trees on debut' over hurdles, well guess what? He still went and dotted up at the festival. This isn't the only example but it happens season in, season out.

When a horse wins like MN did today surely we can just appreciate it for what it was, rather than picking holes in it this early on in a season. Of course pretty much every potential top novice hurdler will come up against inferior opposition, but they all have to start somewhere.

[robith]

Is anyone moaning? Feels just a sharing of opinions to me? People are allowed to pick holes?

Moaning about the reaction, whether that be on here or Twitter, or YouTube, yeah. Not necessarily the actual performance. They weren't opinions of the performance, if they were then absolutely fair enough.

At this stage of the season though with absolutely no other form to go on I'd be surprised if someone can pick holes about a horse who won on the snaff. Surely little else he could have done, at this stage?

Just seems to be a recurring theme (and I've most definitely been guilty of it in the past) that we have to belittle a performance for the sake of it.

What exactly has been discussed to justify this comment.
As Robith said.
People are surely allowed to critique or disagree without being called moaners, or killjoy's.
Otherwise what are we doing ?

I praised his performance by the way.
But the less impressed/excited are probably more right than the ones getting giddy IMO.

I personally would rather see good debate and disagreement than back slapping and lapdoggery.

It wasn't aimed at the comments about the performance.

It was aimed at the comments about people's opinions of the performance. If someone thinks it was a 'lethal' performance then so be it, but to call that comment out, without zero input on the race itself is not called for, IMO. At least back it up. Otherwise it comes across as just having a moan/dig for the sake of it.

I, like you, liked the performance, but also noted the depth of the race, as to be expected with the early novice races, so I'm not encouraging anyone to hype for no reason, on any horse, just to let members express how they wish, without discouragement. We don't want to discourage opinions being shared, whether some believe they are over the top or not.

This is the same thing.

There's no real need to expand.
He just thought it was an over reaction, or an unreasonably high opinion of the performance. Compared to his own.
That's how I understood it. And thought it was funny. A bit like patting a demented dog.
And lets face it.
RoadToCheltenham just got over excited. And like Lobos said, good on him. Give him a treat. Doing no harm, but nobody was really.

[robith]

But the "lethal" comment also had no context, and personally seemed dead extreme in the midst of posts saying "nice debut"?

Not meaning to shitstir btw, just a bit taken aback by the strength of reaction it's elicited in yourself as to me, I saw people weighing up the pros and cons of the race and the performance, and a side convo about a YouTube creator a couple of people didn't particularly like?

[Run4Home]

I can only assume 'the absolutely fuckin lethal' comment is a reference to that famous racing meme and has gone over peoples heads :biggrin-new::biggrin-new:

Thats what came to mind anyway!

If it was it made me smile anyway RoadToCheltenham :chuncky:

Correct Run4Home - it's Jack Whitehall's Dad but has definitely become a social racing meme.

Bit of a mountain made out of a molehill here...

We like the mountains recently. Feels like I've done the 3 peaks challenge

I think that’s fair. People can call performances whatever they like and the context that follows often comes in the form of ‘criticism’. It might not be helpful for the OP but to everyone else reading it helps balance one persons view. I think 14/1 off the back of that is highly questionable, to put it politely.

When in actual fact it was comedy genius.
And I and others are obviously not worthy. And a bit stupid.

I watched that series back to back last year also.:highly_amused:

Completely over my head, and others, I'd imagine, but fair enough :highly_amused:

I guess there had been a bit of, dare I say, criticism, with the whole roll ups thing recently (I know there was no offence taken to it, but it can easily be found that way from behind a keyboard/on screen), I just didn't want things to go that way again with that comment. As it happens, I didn't even know it was a meme :beaten:

Maybe I need to step away from the forum for a bit and update my knowledge of memes and the like, before commenting on such :watermelon:

[Lobos]

Can fully understand why punters disregard anything outside of the Mullins/Henderson stable when building a book in the Supreme as only two other trainers have stopped one of those two winning the race in the last 10 years. An incredible stat.

Can someone please remind me who is training Kudasheva ?
And who owns ?

Is it Henry & Kenny ?
