2023 Novice Hurdlers

Watching Mellificent win today reminded me of Hunters Yarn - think he's a little bit of a forgotten horse heading into this season and excited to see WPM comments in stable tours for him. By Fame and Glory, brother to the useful Do Your Job - he raced once over hurdles (2m5) but reverted back to the flat some four months later, eventually winning the bumper on Irish National day at Fairyhouse. Just a few quotes obtained from Irish Racing on this lad...

Patrick Mullins after Limerick in March: "Hunters Yarn has a lot of ability and it was getting late in the season to lose his novice status, so Willie wanted to go back for a bumper and keep him to be a novice for next year. His hurdles run the last day was a long way below his best, he must have had some setback but I don't know off the top of my head. His work is very good and that's more like it. He's definitely a Graded horse and maybe he'll go for one of those good bumpers in the spring. He could also go for a Graded hurdle. If he won one of those, great, and if he didn't he would still be a novice for next season."

Willie after Fairyhouse in April: "He did that nicely and he has improved the whole spring,. He's going to be a really nice prospect going hurdling next season. He jumps well, he won his point-to-point. We were going to go hurdling this season but it got a bit late and we decided to try and win a winners bumper, he's won a nice one here. We'll probably put him away now."

Hermes Allen out today at Stratford over 2m6. Bought for ?350k by the Ferguson/Hales/Mason team.

Nicholls so not one you'd be confident in for Cheltenham but the first really big PTP purchase out this year.

….reading the stable tour, says he jumps brilliantly and will start off at 2.5m.

Emmett Mullins horse McTigue just won the grade 2 juvenile hurdle at Auteuil. St Donats looked good LTO and a decent pot for Mullins to pick up.

I think the front two of that race jumped really nicely and will win more races this season. Mctigue could be a dark horse.

Off and running with a win too

I'd imagine they'll find a buyer for McTigue now. Possibly go to the grade 1 at Auteuil next month as well as it take well to the French style hurdles.

….interested to read the GE stable tour when it comes out & see plans for Deeply Superficial. Currently available in lots of markets, including the Bumper, she was an expensive ?325k purchase following her only PtP run where she comfortably beat Mullenbeg.

The 16-1 MNH interests me most if the plan is to go down that route (13-1 TWAR with Hills boost).

Do you have a link please? Cannot find it.

Big move this morning for Ahorsewithnoname. About time !!

Tipped by Pricewise in the RP Big Jump Off so that explains it

And rightly so. She should be fav based on her form/experience/last year's 2nd in the race/flat rating and the fact Nicky has said she'll go for the race again. 14/1 was mahoosive!

Gamble on Ahorsewithnoname not stopped. All remaining 12's gone this afternoon. Now 10's JT fav across the boards.
