Ultima Handicap Chase 2020

On the Kildisart gamble. What makes people think that 3m+/stiff track/soft ground is his bag?

For me personally..he was the graded horse hidden in the handicaps. If the ground had suited him over the winter I am sure he would be entered in the graded races by now.

I agree with that

Looked to enjoy the step up in trip last year at Aintree and has decent form away from the handicaps

Well, personally, I'm hoping the ground dries out a bit for him, that's my only concern.

I can't have 3m and the stiff track posing any problems. His two runs over 3m+ with 'Good' in the description read 1-6, the 6th being his latest run on a flat track when never nearer. He has beaten the winner that day (Mister Malarky), previously, over 3m+ at Aintree on 'Good' ground.

He handles Cheltenham. His form reading 1-4, the 4th when staying on in last season JLT, over a trip too short, as shown in his next race when winning well carrying 11-12 at Aintree in a G3 handicap, over 3m+ (as above).

As have said previously, you can wipe any run with 'Heavy' in the description from the form book IMO, as he just doesn't act on it.

Do you not think that soft ground together with 3m+ and a stiff track makes for a much more testing package than 3m round Aintree on good ground? Even a reproduction of that, which for me is very unlikely, won't be good enough. Irrespective of the distance I thought it was a moderate effort at last year's Festival. Never looked likely to play a serious hand.

I think he needs better ground, yes, however I don't think the trip is an issue, it's all about the ground for me. So yeah, soft and 3m+ probably isn't ideal, I'm hoping it dries out, as said previously :)

...it might help that the Ultima takes place on the opening day of the festival when the ground will be relatively fresh.

11st 4lb for Vintage Clouds

10st 6lb for The Condtional

aw no way, gutted! A personal fave of mine that horse. Whats the chances of him getting in anyone?

There are plenty with entries in the other handicaps so I reckon it's 50/50 but more likely if it comes up soft.
Someone usually comes up with the stats on how far the list got in the race in recent years,

Cheers for confirming, hopefully he gets in. Will be confident if he does!

I wouldn’t rule out Discorama in this if it runs in this race, came 2nd off a mark of 149 last year at the festival over 4m in the national hunt chase. Gets in here off a mark of 148 for this race this year, looks tempting.

The NH Chase isn't a handicap and he got beaten half a length at level weights by a 145 rated horse.

He's a decent sort but by no means well in like you need to be to win this race.

I think he has a squeak in this race off 148. I was quite happy with the rating!
