Thanks Gentlemen. And apologies for my absence. If you put your head above the parapet you should be prepared to have it shot off.

Potentially... but there is always a way to do and to communicate things... Great to have you back...

Some very moving posts on this thread... it seems a fair few of us had sh*t 2022s. Thank God that year's over & HNY to you all...

I lost my Grandad & Uncle last year and found the whole year incredibly tough - despite both being expected, I was v.close to both. My Grandad's funeral was on the Weds. of the Festival and took me a lot to turn up on the Tues (he was Irish & I thought he'd want me to raise a Guinness for him)... bumped into Kevloaf and jono on course & remember feeling all over the place that day.

The train I got on the Tues. too ran someone over on the way to Cheltenham, never felt so numb in my life. Never really spoken about it since.

Have been far less active on here the past year resultant; will be back contributing again going forward as this Forum is honestly second to none. Some Superb people on here and I found last year helped me through some dark times. Thank You all.

Won't be at this year's Festival in person unfortunately but will 110% be back in person at 2024 for any Fat Jockeys that want to meet for a pint (I still owe Kev & Jono a few from last year)... GL year ahead all & hope you all have a great Festival. :encouragement:

Nice to hear from you again.
I'm also skipping the festival this year and going to southwell races instead  random.
I also owe Kevloaf a pint as had to run off and chase the proclaimers.

How many miles did you walk?

:highly_amused: Brilliant.
Felt like 500 mate chasing them 2 around Cheltenham pubs, can get lost in a tent they can, never mind Leith.

2 pints up already.... what a great thread to start on for the day.

If anyone else feels they owe me a pint, I can allocate 15 minute slots for you through the day :very_drunk:

I think BigChaang might be in my debt too ;)

and welcome back MadeinJapan :love_heart:

That's really tough MIJ. As you say 2023 is a new year with lots to look forward to. It's great to see you back.

Also understandable that you don't want to risk bumping into Kev in person again this year. It's a wise choice to wait until 2024 and hope he doesn't recognise you. :highly_amused:

Great to see you back.

The connection between memory and places is a strong one.

My dad and I had season tickets at QPR, and it's been so hard going back. I put a brave face on, but when the world cup came around and I didn't have to go for a bit, I felt such a relief. When the games started up again, I just....stopped going. Felt like a weight off. But an inadvertent consequence of this is I've kinda ended up ghosting my pals cos I'm too embarrassed to say "I really can't handle being there at the moment".

I'm not sure what the future holds, at the moment I kinda feel like giving up my season ticket, but I will message my squad tomorrow

I stopped going to the matches and subsequently lost touch with a few mates, and I regret it.

I'd imagine that even though it's difficult now, that eventually the memories will be happier when you're there.
So my advice FWIW is to get yourself to the games.
Your mates are still around and would want to see you.

And if my advice is not good enough, what would your dad say ?

The same advice he invariably gave me for all weathers; "Don't be a such a soft tart"

:highly_amused: Exactly what I wanted to say, but trying to bite my tongue these days. :applause:

That's definitely a bike you need to get back on Rob. And even it it's not right now you need to talk to you pals about it.
