After 38 years I might already be fully aware of that. As the graffiti says on the back of the road closure signs used for every game "QPR: Shit, but local"

That needs added to the club badge, obviously in Latin to make it look and sound better

Some very moving posts on this thread... it seems a fair few of us had sh*t 2022s. Thank God that year's over & HNY to you all...

I lost my Grandad & Uncle last year and found the whole year incredibly tough - despite both being expected, I was v.close to both. My Grandad's funeral was on the Weds. of the Festival and took me a lot to turn up on the Tues (he was Irish & I thought he'd want me to raise a Guinness for him)... bumped into Kevloaf and jono on course & remember feeling all over the place that day.

The train I got on the Tues. too ran someone over on the way to Cheltenham, never felt so numb in my life. Never really spoken about it since.

Have been far less active on here the past year resultant; will be back contributing again going forward as this Forum is honestly second to none. Some Superb people on here and I found last year helped me through some dark times. Thank You all.

Won't be at this year's Festival in person unfortunately but will 110% be back in person at 2024 for any Fat Jockeys that want to meet for a pint (I still owe Kev & Jono a few from last year)... GL year ahead all & hope you all have a great Festival. :encouragement:

Glad to see you back MiJ.
Hope this year brings you plenty of positives after such a tough 2022 for you. Look forward to catching up for a few pints again in 2024 :encouragement:

Bump for this..... obviously with some perspective there are much tougher times than this. People have shown and shared about that and I'm so proud of this forum for it.

I also think we need to acknowledge because of financial investment, this week and next week can be two of the toughest, that some may not be able to understand.

Responsible gambling is incredibbly relevant as always, and so is making sure we're all okay... this penultimate week for me before the 6 day and 48 decs is the toughest... I know that talking about it is the best option. I promise this forum will be behind you, so if anyone is struggling then make sure you don't suffer in silence!

Yup, well said Kev. It’s the elephant in the room on a racing forum - given as well as our undoubted love of the sport, gambling is a big side event to that. For some people, and maybe some people on here, there’s a risk that love bubbles over.

We should remember, and have confidence in our selections, and in our ‘books’ (I hate that word, and I hate the word portfolio - but I have never managed to find a comfortable alternative). If we have a bad Tuesday, sometimes it can be hard to remain confident. Sometimes it’s difficult to remain confident in our Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday books.

When this happens it’s easy to get trigger finger, and go spraying crap bets like an amateur holding an AK-47 style. Chasing losses is always a bad idea. Talk to your pals, talk to the forum instead.

I suspect it’s happened to all of us and some point. Stay well everybody

Having re-read that, I think it sounds patronising. I apologise, it’s not meant to be. I hope it gets taken in the way it was meant.

Peace and love

I thought I was the only one that hated this. Portfolio is the worst. It's a load of bets on a race. Not a portfolio, and not a book!

If I was in charge I'd be issuing bans for both these words:biggrin-new:

Not patronising at all. :applause:
If anyone does feel patronised then take positive action.

You're right about the words "books" and "portfolios" being used for lots of betting :applouse:

though that type of betting is kind of like an "accountancy/accounting" piece of work.

I've found myself saying (and typing) out the word "pick(s)" a lot lately - I dont know why.

Maybe subconsciously trying to veer away from making them sound too important.

But I've ended up preferring that word for now, to any other.

"My pick(s) for the Arkle.."
"If I had to have a pick in the Grand Annual..."

"Books" comes literally from "bookmaking", which is a type of betting is kind of like an "accountancy/accounting" piece of work....

Bookmakers, make books.

I make books.

We're not banning the word books :loyal:

Portfolio can go!

A nice compromise!

As long as we don't all start napping a horse in every race I've no problem with the wordage!

Getting sick and tired of seeing any and every horse racing page or account on social media doing their own preview Napping a horse in every race - to me you have a nap of the day or festival not race!

Even worse when they are picking horses that arent even entered or intending to run

Hi Kev

Good bump for a good thread.

Personally i think I'm in an OK place right now, sun is starting to shine through which i think gives lots of people a little lift.

Recognise not all will be the same as me, and for those the door is always open for a chat if wanted.

Take care all....

If this were Twitter

The offence by proxy army would no doubt be reminding you of the Albino and Ginger communities!

“Communities”
”online communities”

what the fuck ?

As Kathy Burke once said
“Fuck social media ! Get together in a room and have a bowl of soup”
