He was, but we’ve been here before with Mullins ruling out horses only for them to turn up on the day. Just curious whether he’s at it here

I can't remember the exact circumstances, but it was douvan that time too? Wasn't he ruled out like at Xmas or before and then things changed nearer the time?

Defi will get there with a win having already won a Triumph and JLT
Chacun if he beats these two will be projected to super stardom based on their reputations.

Cant see past Altior if he sticks on the afterburners like he did on Saturday. What I can’t understand is why they don’t get him to pick up like that after the second last at Cheltenham as they are relatively close together now so doubt he would fall in a hole before the line.
His turn of foot on Saturday was incredible.
I couldn't be confident on ruling any of them out.
Splinters on my backside and all that but I don't care for this race.
No point being too bullish when I win from any of them :highly_amused:
That picture of Vautour is SO good. It looks like he has stepped over it like a Great Dane would step over a curb.

I agree, he finishes his races like he’s trying to avoid a hammering from the handicapper for his next race, just doing enough each time. I thought Saturday would have been a good chance to let him go earlier but maybe Nico is holding a bit back for the big one??

Looking in trouble then prevailing with style has become typical of Altior of late, and is part of his enduring appeal, but the fact is that the one time of late when he met a really good horse on top of his game he lost.
That was to CYRNAME in November, a performance that has been picked over endlessly, not least by Altior’s famously navel-gazing trainer, Nicky Henderson.
I am in the “what you saw was what you got” camp: the time and sectionals were fast, and Altior may actually have been suited by the longer trip rather than the opposite (he actually increased his stride frequency near the end).

I'm an absolute sucker for the old champions coming back and beating the young up and comers, too much time watching wrestling as a kid i think. I cant get enough of the Rocky-type storylines. For some reason that i will never understand i never got on board with Sprinter Sacre, i recognised him as a great horse obviously but he never pulled on the heart strings like some champions did. SO i never got onboard with Sprinters comeback win in the champion chase, even tho its EXACTLY the type of bet i normally love.
I have a horrible feeling that i'm going to make the same mistake here, as i'm all over CPS for this but can see history repeating as the old champion comes back to his best form to make a mockery of me. I was all over UDS when sprinter won aswell, the parallels are frightening

Along with Sussex winning the 2006 C&G Trophy (as it was then) after setting Lancashire a meagre 173 to win, that is the best live sporting event that I've ever attended.
A former work colleague (whose family owned at least part of Katchit) invited me and a mate up to the family hospitality box for a couple of races so was out on the balcony screaming when Sprinter made his move. I had backed it, but to be honest that was nothing to just seeing him back again at something like his former self. The roar when he went past UDS sounded insane - can't imagine that's happened many times when an odds-on favourite has been overtaken at the festival. Real 'hairs on the back of the neck stand up' stuff.
Might be worth bringing this thread up again :highly_amused:

One of my favourite ever horse racing moments ever when Sprinter made his move in pursuit of UDS and jumped that fence like he was jumping over lava, it was like when Rocky finally landed a big blow on Ivan Drago, I remember leaping out of my chair with Sprinter, you just knew he was back and not to be caught
I just rewatched the race and the jump before Nico let Sprinter accelerate was a shocker watching it back :witless: strange how our memories block out the bad bits!!
