Foxhunters 2019

I keep getting drawn into backing Stand Up and Fight in a double with anything I fancy.... Dereck O’Connor supposedly said it’s the best hunter he’s ever sat on and the way he won at Down Royal was mighty impressive..... In a way I’m concerned why he’s still 6-1 as I would have him a lot shorter.

Seeing that quote somewhere would make anyone sit up and take note.

Do you know where it came from?

I hadn’t heard the comment until The Don mentioned it but not beaten far in a G3 hurdle race behind Death Duty and then only 4l behind Al Boum Photo in a G2 suggests he will bring plenty of class to the race, and young enough to improve further...

This was the only quote ive got
"He's a very nice horse. He'd good form over hurdles and they've chosen to go this route. I think he could be a little bit special" - Derek O'Connor, rider

Cheers.

The form is pretty impressive, I am pretty sold on him ... but hunters would not be an area is claim to excel in, so I'll keep an open mind

Very interesting quote. What would some of our hunter chase experts on here make of it?

You'd have to be mad to ignore those Comment's from D.O.C Surely ?? . O.k Corral / S.U.&. F double -festival banker ??

I’m no expert on it at all but here’s what I’m thinking...

I was the founding member of the Burning Ambition fan club last year for this from Christmas onwards at some huge prices. And got my fingers well and truly burnt (no pun intended) when he failed to stay up the hill.

I like Shantou Flyer and Stand Up And Fight for this as well. I don’t want to steam in on the latter after last years disspapintkent and he has a similar profile. The quote from DOC - does anyone have the link to that? It’s a hell of a statement.

I’m still keeping an open mind on the race but I’d be very surprised if I didn’t end up backing one of the two.

This is from the Belfast Telegraph, MoM.

Winning trainer Enda Bolger has previously used the race as a launch pad for On The Fringe, as well as Gilgamboa - who is the current Foxhunters favourite - last year.

Stand Up And Fight, with multiple All-Ireland champion rider Derek O'Connor aboard, gave a bold front-running display, jumping superbly despite always having eventual runner-up Sizing Coal in the shadows.

Stand Up And Fight was immediately cut from 25s to 12/1 for the amateur feature on Gold Cup day.

"He was deadly," praised jockey O'Connor. "He's a very nice horse. He had good form over hurdles and they have chosen to go this hunterchase route.

"I'd say he could be a little bit special."

Will Ucello Conti becoming here? and if so who ride him, O'Connor I guess would ride SU&F.. I know everyone here is excited about SU&F but I just do not see it. I am not trying to put everyones Anti post fancy down, but I can not see how this horse is talked about being the next OTF when on paper alone UC is better.. IMHO

I am no Hunter expert but SU&F just does not stand out over 3miles and the fox hunters is another 2f, I know UC is 4 years older so is in his twilight but for the 2019 fox hunter he could be the bet (for me anyway).

SU&F won well over 2.6miles but over 3miles he bet johnny sue by 6L then johnny sue next time out finished 3rd beaten 14L, SU&F time over 3 miles on Good to Y was 6 mins & 16s wheres Ucello Conti time over the same ground and 3 miles was 5 mins 45s (not track), I was not there so did not time it but if that is correct thats 31s quicker..

Ucello Conti also beat a good PTP horse in sydney paget who has won his last 8 races with Derek O'Connor on his back but Derek O'Connor switched to UC.. SU&F also over three miles beat the third horse artic skipper by 9L, artic skipper then came out and beat cloudy morning by 8L, Cloudy morning then came out and was beaten by Ucello Conti 21 & 1.2L.

I know if it was a two horse race and knowing the old plodder will stay all day I would be lumping on UC over 3m 2f but if Derek O'Connor picked SU&F that would make me think..

But I am sure I must be missing something?

Hopefully Shantou Flyer will run soon and change my mind again..

I would be no surprise to see Jamie codd on ucello conti
Never struck me as a Cheltenham horse and has never run there
That may be down to the fact that they have targeted aintree a few times
But he appears a little one paced at the end of his races and the Cheltenham hill will not help that
Stand up and fight is the new up and coming horse that this division needs badly
Price probably gone a bit now with jockey comments and who trains him
But had good form over hurdles and his run at down royal was visually very taking
Happy with my 20/1,more than confident Derek o Connor will ride, particularly given who the owner is

Comparing times over the same distance but different track is of absolutely no relevance.

I can't think of an easy analogy, but if a human ran 1 mile by doing laps of an Olympic track, it'd be faster than 1 mile in a straight line, or 1 mile around roads/streets.

The 31 seconds faster is just massively irrelevant as a direct comparison?

Yep, I put my hands up, I did not check other races results over that course and distance. pretty much the same times give or take a few seconds, so nothing special. But I did check other races results over that course and distance & going for SU&F and his time is average at best also..

Regards of the times, UC has gone over the trip plus some unlike SU&F, and if you go by what he beat (not much) UC would be 4L plus in front of him..

Don't get me wrong if I was on 20s plus I would be hoping he is the next OTF but what he has done & beaten so far doesn't make him a 6/1 fav at the moment..

That's not correct as if you go by wilcosdiana its the opposite. They're hunter chasers they have going days you'd spend an age coming back in a circle going through alot of the form

Fwiw ucello conti is a leading contender. And he beat a proper one last time out who is consistent himself

Told ya I wasn't that hot with hunters, I think I am a die hard UC backer that will most likely follow him of that cliff.. again hopefully Shantou Flyer will run soon and I will jump on his band wagon..

Is it a foregone conclusion that DOC rides stand up and fight over gilgambao, his comments would suggest so? And if so who gets the leg up on gilgambao?

Gilgamboa won't run will he. He'd have been entered for sunday. Same race he got injured in a year ago.

If he miraculously did, his forms not very good anymore anyway to be fair. And a year older a year out injured. You'd be half mad to think he could improve

Well that shot all my hopes down! :sorrow:
