Equine Flu Outbreak

Bookmaker shares have gone down with uncertainty around racing fixtures - https://www.racingpost.com/news/liv...-to-equine-flu-outbreak-but-thurles-on/365316

That being said, I've been reading about this pretty much all morning and have gone from being very worried to not that worried. I am sure that fills people with reassurance :)

This becomes about containment which they appear to have successfully done. Unlike what happened in Australia, the major difference here is that all horses have to be vaccinated. In Australia they were not immune which made it a much more serious issue. As far as we know the horses from the infected yard raced at Ayr and Ludlow on Wednesday, and they have since been placed in quarantine. This isn't the first time this has happened here either. In 2003 more than 1,000 horses were affected in 21 yards in Newmarket and racing continued during that outbreak

Let's thank the gods this happened on the 7th Feb and not the 7th of March cause that would be proper touch and go time. They will have the time to investigate thoroughly and put the proper protocols in places to stop it spreading further.

Ultimately I guess it depends on how many yards are found to be infected and the time available to resolve this.

One of the (unlikely) containment measures could be to stop horses travelling from Ireland, thereby 'Presenting Uncertainty' for Kevloaf!

Fingers crossed for all concerned.

This may be an opportune few days for bookmakers to go nrnb all races
They will want to get as much money in as possible with no racing in uk

I read or heard that It was Three horses In Donald mcCain's yard that have the virus , NOT the Runners at
Ayr or Ludlow . But Obviously , they will Test the Runners he had .
Also Read that it's Not a Racing industry thing , Cases of Non Racehorses been diagnosed too.

...daft me, I didn’t realise that. I thought they’d discovered the virus at the race course. So if yesterday’s runners are virus free, then I assume they can contain the problem within McCain’s yard.

I'm no expert , But i guess that would be the Best scenario , If no other horses already have it .

People can carry it though so what's to say people from McCains yard didn't pass it to other people from other yards whilst at Ayr or Ludlow

Trainers who had runners at Ayr and Ludlow are ordered to isolate yards. Looks like racing is off for a while.

That's true Charlie , We just have to hope that it is Contained in D.M's yard , Not good news for him , But would be
Best for the Overall situation.

Apparently , Their going to issue a statement this Evening , Don't suppose any Owners, e.t.c on here
Know how long it takes to get them Tested ??.

Three cases confirmed at Mc cain’s yard

A few lemsips and hot whiskeys and the horseys will be fine boys :highly_amused:

All yards with runners at Ayr or Ludlow yesterday have been placed on lockdown and no entries will be accepted from these yards

Glad most of my book is trained in Ireland.

No racing until 13th Feb at the earliest, thoughts?
