Cheltenham Gold Cup 2020

Been confirmed that Jack Kennedy fractured his femur - hope he makes a speedy recovery but he’ll be out for a good deal of time.

So, who takes the tide on Delta Work? Kennedy has been excellent in his last two races but I wonder if Davy will now jump on or if he’ll stick with PP - you would think he’d jump if given the chance.Alternatively, they could just give the ride to Keith Donoghue. I’d far rather see Davy on board and I’m sure most here would be the same (which is no slight on Donoghue).

Cant really see anyone else getting the ride.

I'm pretty sure Davy will stay on Percy as iirc hes good friends with the owner, so I dont think he'd jump ship imo

I can’t see them letting Davy off PP.

Donoghue would be the favourite, unless I’m being very dense, does Geraghty have a ride for the GC? JP has nothing entered.

I hope it’s not KOD, he hit nearly every fence at Down Royal when he rode him in October. Given it’s a Giggy horse it may well be Rachael Blackmore.

I know that HdB has Chris’s Dream and Monalee, but they are both much longer prices, with less winning credentials than Delta Work, so as Giggy have a lot of horses with HdB and Gordon, they may well ask if she could ride DW in the Gold Cup.

It would have break the mould though for normally being HdB’s rider, and she has only ridden three winners (from 36 rides) for Gordon in 5 years.

Maybe it could be the Codfather after all, or Davy Russell (he wouldn’t would he?).

I think given his association with riding Gigginstown horses for Noel Meade
Sean Flanagan would have a good shot at picking up the ride on Delta Work
Particularly with Road To Respect out of the race

Almost the polar opposite of what Ruby says about Kemboy, ie 'let him alone. He knows what he's doing.' Hopefully, he'll make Danny (or whoever) aware of that before March. What he does need is a good sight of the fences.

An odd feeling to be disappointed at coming second in a G1 but fair play to Delta Work who got the run of the race and was best on the day. I tend to agree with Jack that he should be allowed to go at his own pace because he actually relaxes up front and saves energy. Yesterday he was involved in several mini races whereas Delta Work only had a race for the last couple of furlongs. Kemboy stayed on fine and I don't think that the hill will be an issue so the aim would have to be to jump the last in front and try to repel challengers.

I thought he ran brilliantly well given the ground he conceded with some wayward jumping. Surely the instructions for a GC are pop him out in front, let him set his own fractions and get into an early rhythm that helps him relax. If that brushes up those small mistakes he'll be bang there at the business end of the race that's for sure.
 
kemboy was looking like a potential freak after aintree and punchestown but he hasn't shown that turn of foot this season. he wont be able to dictate the pace in the gold cup. he jumped right as well.
