Cheltenham Gold Cup 2018

Agree with all of that Quevega. Myself and the missus were on at 25s for 4m last year and just wanted him to be alright. We were at Leopardstown for the two days and didn't she only have a 5er each way at 66/1 on him. Costing me a lovely little quadruple on Monalee, Samcro, Total Recall & Outlander.

amazingly, I had the same acca go down, but didn't have the wife sat with a little saver like that.

Not sure whether that'd make it better or worse :highly_amused:

I did read that they are undecided still on whether Edwulf would take part, but O'Connor would keep the ride....

Hendo on Might Bite - http://cheltenham.attheraces.com/ne...te-putting-in-'vastly-superior'-home-displays

"He is a more mature horse and he possibly looks more professional, but his work is certainly better. It is just of a higher standard.

"His work has been excellent. His work has been vastly superior to anything he did last year. He is a better horse at home than he was last year. I'm not going to say he is a better horse on the racecourse.

"I would like to go to a racecourse (for a gallop). It might be on the grass, it might be on the all-weather. He has got two more bits of work to do. He is in good form and worked this morning."

Plenty more he mentions, about the fact it is technically a new course too.

I think Might Bite is absolutely MAKING the Gold Cup this year.... without him this race wouldn't have half the appeal!

Really hope your right Kev! I've felt strong all year about this horse and how he could have an endless amount of talent!

Cheltenham a real worry for me with Might Bite, check out his run in a novice hurdle there back in 2015. Did exactly the same as in the RSA last year, and with the extra couple of furlongs in the gold cup his tendency to idle means the ride and how the race pans out will have to be perfect for him to win. He needs to get to the front as late as possible, but he’s such a strong traveller that’s not easy to judge. Enough strong stayers in the race to think that a couple will stay on past him whilst he’s waving to the crowd

He looks at the entry to the paddock. Theres no where to go on the other side of the course where the gold cup is ran just the best mate enclosure on that rail.

Whether that makes a difference time will tell.

Could the strong stayers play to his favour? Normally hes got the field burnt out and is on his own but with the stayers next to him he hopefully wont be idling. Whether he gets the trip or not, I couldnt tell you

i dont think he will race as prominent to keep something in the tank for the extra 2 furlongs and THAT hill so i agree ryan that he will have horses around him to keep him concentrating.

If he tries to burn them off like last year it is possible he empties inside the last 2 furlongs. Only time will tell.

I really have a gut feeling for Native River.

You’d have to drop him in then not let him go on til past 3 miles. Depends how the race is run, a lot of strong stayers but not sure who will make it a decent gallop. Might be one to bet in race as if there’s no pace in then Might Bite should be able to go on

Really fancy MB for this, got 9/1 before the KG but only small stakes, I personally was not put off by his KG run, different track.. I was more confident about Don Cossack winning a few years back as I knew he would take it up a few from home, unlike MB that will be holding on for dear life when the out & out stayer start closing on him. But like all top horses hopefully he'll pick up his ears and have another gear when he gets joined.

Totally agree

Got my scarf at the ready! A lot of negativity coming out from previews and pundits... more than happy with backing him in over what looks to be a weak field - none of the rest have had a perfect campaign

Where did you get a MB scard opatcho?

Anyone here got a " Colin Tizzard " Scarf ?? .:highly_amused:

My selection for this is Our Duke to beat Might Bite. The form of his last race giving Presenting Percy 7lb and winning by 1L is enough to win this year IMO. I know its my bug bear but once again RPR has undervalued the form. By at least 11lb. Look at the finishers who both ran their races 17L behind. The RPR figures have been cut by 11_13 lb for both on their recent form. These errors can be used to advantadge the edge on the bookies.Years ago my Dad gave me a graph that the firm used it s a scale of figures and class/ race types for NH and the flat. It was using postmarks figures and the interpretation of them. Sometimes it pays off nicely but its not an exact science. The form has to back it up and in this instance I believe it does. Our Duke. Oh and PP for the RSA to win by 5L !!

I think Might Bite @4s might be the biggest value of the week.
