Cheltenham Gold Cup 2018

I'm a Native River fan. I can see why people can't have it and I kind of agree. He is a horse that needs to get into a rhythm and I really don't think he did last year. I think RJ didn't commit him enough in my opinion, but it had been a long hard season. This year, he is fresh and if DJ really goes for everything, I don't think anything can out stay him. Never been a Might Mite supporter and I cant see it staying, so covers on Sizing John and Our Duke will do for me. I guess I am slightly going with me heart, but it will take a good one to beat him in my opinion.

He couldnt win a weaker renewal last year and if he runs to the same level he isnt going to be in the first 5 imho. Surely Tizzard didnt just want the 1 prep this year also?

I can see Native River running close maybe even closer than last year but he may be tapped for toe up the hill by a classier horse. Sizing John is my guess at the minute.

Realise injury played its part, but a light campaign was always the plan. I'm not 100% and as I say, my heart is with the horse and I don't think the course is perfect for him, but I am sure he will be better this year. Whether or not better is good enough is open to question. I am not a person that thinks it is a good year or a bad year, its a race and its the Gold Cup and this horse looks like a Gold Cup horse. Does Might Bite really look like a Gold Cup horse, not sure myself.

Tizzard did say only 1 run becausse he wants to go to all the spring festivals with him.... so more design than error it sounds like... I wouldn't take it as a negative for NAtive River... wherther the plan works or not is the question though, rather than "was it the plan" - because it was.

I do like NAtive River but then think he's met with Minella Rocco twice and been beaten twice, so if I was backing NR I'd have to back Minella Rocco instead at a bigger price?

Mite Bite might not seem like your normal Gold Cup horse, in fact he seems a complete and utter nutter but I personally love him and hope he wins 3 GC's in a row but if not I can not think of any other horse in training that I am looking forward to as much as the Mightly Might Bite..

Was going to mention Minella Rocco, but couldn't trust his jumping, but will deffo be having a small flutter as a cover!

Yeah, he's completed around Cheltenham to win the 4 miler and obviously to come 2nd last year so I can see why you'd do that...

Press day at Harrington's. William Hill shunt Sizing John out from 6/1-15/2. Is this some sort of special offer or has he got a leg missing?

Not sure!

Sizing John 15/2
and
Might Bite 9/2

Might Bite 9/2? I can see the arguement he either wins or "bombs/throws it away" but Might Bite out of the 3? I wouldn't lay that.... so that is an attractive looking price now... this close.

Coney Island Ruled out of the Festival today !, maybe go to Punches town

I've had difficulties picking between those at the head of the market so I've played Bachasson EW. Connections keen to go for this and impressed previously at 2m5, think he has the potential to be a lively outsider

Harry Fry is hoping Kelso's Premier Chase meeting is rearranged for American but, if not, there is still the option of supplementing him for the Timico Gold Cup at Cheltenham.

The talented but fragile chaser bounced back to his best to finish second to Definitly Red in the Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham in January.

While he must have soft ground, all the current snow and forecast rain is giving Fry hope that he may just get his conditions at Prestbury Park.

"It was a shame that we couldn't run American at Kelso this weekend and we're hoping that gets rearranged," Fry told his Betway blog.

"If not, there's an outside chance that he will be supplemented for the Gold Cup on the Saturday before if we could be sure that conditions would come up soft.

"The chances of getting soft ground on the Friday are probably pretty slim, but you've got all the snow to melt in and then the forecast looks unsettled so you never know.

"He's in the Ultima Handicap Chase on the Tuesday and also has an entry in the Midlands National, although it's unlikely we'd run him off top-weight on really bad ground, so we've got a few options."

Betfair have settled my bet as a loser on the exchanges. Anyone know what happens if he's supplemented.

I have a bet on One for Arthur for 2018 GN (I won on him in 2017) and that bet is not settled yet... So no bookies should settle a bet until after the race result.. I am guessing but because it is in the exchanges and has been pulled out not declared then it would be settled as a loser. if it gets supplemented new price new bet..

In my list of bets for this race it has a price of 1 (I backed him at 100+) and he is removed from the market so it looks like it's settled.

I'm just curious really, as I don't think he'll run (or win).

I need to know that as well..... took a big price while we all fancied him from a long way out in the Hennessey :very_drunk:
