Ballymore Novice Hurdle 2020

No mention for Midnight Run for this.

I fancy his chances in the spud race and have backed accordingly. He doesn’t look short of pace but his full brother Carefully Selected is the only progeny we have to go by and he’s proven to be a dour stayer. He’ll most likely go for the Navan Novice Hurdle in 3 weeks time & that will tell us more.

These are JJ Slevin’s quote after his Cork maiden win.

"His bumper form was good last year and I'd say he is a good solid horse and will be a good stayer. Going up in trip in time will be no harm to him. He is another exciting one and Colreevy is a very decent mare. He got through the ground well and has a good attitude."

I’d pencilled him in for the Ballymore myself. JP does seem to have plenty of ammunition for that race though.

Both entries for Chantry House are over 2m (Newcastle and Newbury). Although Hendo likes to start a lot of horses over 2m, I'd be confident of ruling out the AB myself.

One horse that I had neglected to mention from my (never ending) short list for the Ballymore was It Sure Is of Nicky Henderson. I've just gone back through my notes and marked him down as a Ballymore horse. I think the reason I hesitated in the first place was that I figured he'd remain in bumpers this season. The owners also have Shishkin with Henderson and he could also be a Ballymore type too. I've asked Bet365 for a price for the Ballymore but he's probably one for the TWAR market which I don't really dabble in due to multiples being restricted.

It Sure Is entered over 2m4f at Newbury on Friday.

See King Roland is also entered up at Newbury Friday but starting over 2m

Yeah. That sort of blows my AB prediction :highly_amused:

Still every chance. I had him down as Ballymore, mostly because of connections really, but backed him 'any race' as he seemed more of a staying type in his races.

Never get get why folk think starting over 2m is a negative for the AB , plenty have in the past and it's not like you just need a plodder (thou there has been the odd one;) )

Kilbricken Storm and Penhill are must two that ran and won over 2m before winning the Albert Bartlett

Dlauro over hyped after beating trees. As though.

Absolutely the winner was beaten 20lenghts by Embittered & Blackbow. Looked a poor maiden.

On first viewing it looks poor enough form. Dlauro drifted near the off, so did the Mullin's three. I'm some how trying to justify to myself the best in that field were unfit. Did notice that the first time Fils Spirituel was asked by Townend he picked up and went back on the bridle before stopping again. Mullin's are needing runs, i wouldn't be surprised to see them improve next time, but they;'d need to. Not sure on Dlauro tho.

Whilst Dlauro clearly hasn't any form of note in the book, I wouldn't be giving up on him just yet. That was too bad to be true.

I will certainly be keeping my eyes on him... could well be a Martin Pipe candidate.

Whoever shifted him to JP is after having it off!

Im not sure anyone is 'having it off' tbh Sean. There are so many horses like this in training these days.... horses that are sold for ridiculous sums havintg won egg and spoon races easily. The simple truth is nobody (buyer or seller) really know how good they are at that time... its complete guesswork!

Think they deserve more credit than that (guesswork). They spend a lot of money and are knowledgeable enough.
But you're correct that there are just as many, if not more that are bought for large sums that don't end up that good, as there are that do make the grade.
Joseph clearly thought highly of this horse, and it remains to be seen how good he is, or could be.

In many cases that’s true but in this case I disagree with you. He’s a 6 year old with a poor injury record & poor collateral form in the book from his bumper.
