Arkle 2018

He just never seems to get up over 2m at the top level for me, can't see that changing now he's over fences, admittedly he jumped extremely well, as well as anything we have seen so far, but I suspect the majority of what we have seen will improve massively in time and on the most part, of the top horses we have seen, Bacardys aside, most have jumped sufficiently well anyway for novices.

I agree with what you are saying but I can't name anything else in the race that "seems to get up at the top level" I'm aware its very bold but from what we have seen so far petit mouchoir and footpad are clear for me. And with the injury doubts/ lack of prep for PM and footpads jumping I'd have him in front of PM and without PM which may or may not be the case on the day, id have footpad a good bit clear of the rest that we have seen so far. Only chacun and brain power would would be of interesting to me personally from future entries which I have covered with a or each at 25/1 the latter And 25/1 72.0 the former. And bleu berry if he went chasing id cover him at a big exchange price.
It's nice and the thoughts behind it all work out for finians going to the arkle but after his runs at aintree and his runs last time out i cant see him Winning an arkle. And iv backed him. For this and any race. Strange prep also running over 2m 4.5 at chelt on Friday.

Mullins oozed confidence before race , and comment he best jumper of a fence he trained is enough for me to steam in. Firmly believe Finians cant get near him over 2m on likely decent Cheltenham ground. Petit is the only one capable of giving Footpad something to think about , however he not back till new year is a massive negative.

I'm struggling to see how it's a 'massive' negative, given he's run this season already, it's not as if he's coming off a huge lay off. The problem he had wasn't exactly posed as huge by HDB, and for all we know he could be working away at home as we speak without any issues at all. I think the Irish Arkle will be a massive race, especially if PM meets Footpad, can't see it myself as suspect Footpad will still be stepped up in trip anyway, but should they meet and PM doesn't win, he could potentially need the racecourse run, meaning he'll come on for it should they then meet in this race.

There are a lot of 'ifs' and 'buts' in the above statement, but yet again you could say that about 99% of the current horses in any betting market for the festival, infact all 100% as they all have to make it to the festival without issues anyway.

Footpad and Petit Mouchoir ran similar debut races I thought. Travelled well, slick jumping and nice turn of foot at the end. Pretty well everything that Finians Oscar wasn't.

Not many horses win Arkles on back of one or two runs prior , yes it can be done but only by very special ones.

Over £300 waiting to back footpad for the arkle at less than 7/1 on the exchanges. And £1300 already matched today under 7/1.

I've only just watched the ATR interview.... you can see why he'd get carried away...

I also 'heard' that Ruby will be gutted to miss the ride, I think they'd let Ruby ride for Mullins and just bin Jacob off and ease him towards Sceau Royal :highly_amused::devilish:

Not a big a surprise as I thought. Had no idea he was a general 6/1 chance now with the books. Pp bf standout for the jlt 4 pts bigger than the general price .

Got a link? Haven't seen it :)

The arkle trial has been reopened today with just 5 entries.
River wylde is one if them

Nicky Henderson is planning to run River Wylde in the Racing Post Arkle Trophy Trial Novices' Chase at Cheltenham on Sunday.

The six-year-old was a smart novice hurdler last season, winning the Dovecote Novices' Hurdle at Kempton in February and finishing an excellent third in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham in March.

He pleased connections when making a winning start over the bigger obstacles at Uttoxeter earlier this month.

Henderson said: "That's the plan, to go to Cheltenham. I was delighted with him at Uttoxeter and like a lot of ours, he looked like he needed the run.

"He has been very good at home. He was a bit low over them to start with, but I thought he was great throughout the race at Uttoxeter and he will come on a lot for that.

"He was a good hurdler so we will have a look at the Cheltenham race."

The race was reopened on Monday, having attracted just five initial entries.

Not sure that'll take you straight to it, but its on the ATR website

Thanks for that. Not very often he'd talk about a horse in that sort of regard, and interesting that Gary obrien was the one who brung up the drinmore, mullins just replied to what he said stating the obvious that he was entered, then said the wants to make an arkle horse out of him.

Very happy to read this.

Was good first time out, hoping for the improvement Henderson expects.

Actually surprised 20-1 is still on offer.

I think he sounds more effusive about brain power at the moment ... which surprises me a bit

To be fair brain powers form is better than 3rd in a sub standard supreme as it stands. Have to wait for entries but sceau royal / north hill Harvey would be a stern test for river wylde at this stage.

Should keep him for Aintree! :devilish:

I don't get the flat track thing personally. Its always covenient ehen theyy seem to want a flat track when massively up in grade from handicaps to champion hurdles. Maybe Cheltenham wasn't hid day but I think punchestown was and that's a good level.

Finians oscar now entered for the arkle trial after they re opened it with previously only 5 entries.
Pp thinks he runs there. After drifting out massively for Fridays race

Positive in terms on this being the target.
Would need to have improved from first time out to beat River wylde and co .... But if he does run here, bubble could be bust OR we have a new fav who won't be displaced at the front of the market!

My fingers are crossed, although running on Friday won't affect my thoughts that he'll end up here!
