Arkle 2018

Well ,. ! I missed out on the fancy prices on Footpad, forgot to do my bet yesterday in the excitement of W.hill doing a/p bets ,
But i was going to put it in the J.L.T , so , do we think that the owners will run S.Royal
and footpad in this race ? , or What ??

Wouldn't be a problem, they were both in the champion hurdle last year. And lami serge Bristol de nai both went for the jlt. I don't personally think he will run in the drinmore. Once they've sat down and had a look at it, With petit mouchoir on the side lines, He has a free run at the douvan/ min st Stephens day race Over 2miles. Then you may or may not meet petit mouchoir in the Irish arkle. You can make your decision on trip after that. That's where I'd expect he'll be going anyway.

I like this as a guide especially for Mullins, absolutely is a creature of habit!

They might try and put Jacob on Sceau Royal so they can win the race with Ruby on board:highly_amused:

Footpad having two seasons over hurdles doesn't seem to be putting anybody off?

2 mile novices weren't the best bunch last season and the best of them aren't going here. In a hurdle race. They'd have no chance against footpad/ petit mouchoir and likely brain power.
And the way the former 2 jump they don't look like regressing for a fence. Would be long odds against the arkle will be won by one of last years novices. And i include all last years novices in that.

Agree in the main, certainly don't care myself about the extra season over hurdles as I'd backed PM anyway... but this won't be the only season that the 'extra season over hurdles' horses are over bet and cone up short. We know them better, they're higher profile because of it and you'd lose money backing them.

Playing devils advocate mainly here, but I certainly think a polished performance at Cheltenham could see a new favourite after the Arkle trial

Who's entered up?
Sceau royal/ northill harvey, not sure if they would throw brain power in here. I don't think river wylde would beat those 2 and would scrape home If He did. Capitaine? Couldn't have him for an arkle at all personally.

Not checked. Hopefully FO or William Henry:highly_amused:

Brain power of no interest in this race for me, hopefully doesn't come back to bite me

Both run over 2m4 on friday

Id give brain power a chance, hes keen and not sure he finds much at the end of his races in the very top grade. But if you were ew inclined which im not. You won't go far wrong with brain power ew in the arkle.

I've been a big fan of Footpad since his novice days, but he's always one I've thought would want further? At the moment a tad weak looking but overall I'm a big negative on him over shorter

2 miles of a strong pace up the hill would be perfect. 2m4 in the jlt would be more than fine also. He has plenty of pace he's been running against the best in grade 1 open company over 2miles, he wouldnt be as quick as brain power but he finishes off his races a whole lot bette and you won't see a better round of jumping from a novice than that of footpad today.

Entries will be out tomorrow for Sunday though won't they? Or is Friday confirmed?

They will be.
But tizzard already said that's deffinately where finians going. And henderson always targets that race every year .

*/*RACE

Friday, 17 November 2017 - 2:25

(Four day)*at Cheltenham*Steel Plate And Sections Novices' Chase*(2m4½f)

Finian's Oscar will spearhead a strong team of horses trainer Colin Tizzard is preparing for the upcoming November meeting at Cheltenham.

The dual Grade One-winning hurdler impressed on his debut over fences at Chepstow last month and is set to make his first appearance at Prestbury Park in the Steel Plate And Sections Novices' Chase on Friday, November 17.

Davy is already jocked up on William Henry and henderson dosent block enter them. And henderson has ran one of his decent 2m4 + novices here every year. Including last years winner 00seven.

Geraghty also jocked up on move withthetimes. Who they said would be tried over further after he was held at 2 last time

Good little race this could turn about to be, and informative, though Finian's Oscar & MWTT have race fitness advantage over William Henry, assuming all stand their ground and run of course.

If Finian's Oscar tears up this bunch of relatively smart performers there could a change of target on the horizon IMO!

However, as it stands, Petit Mouchoir (should he make it), Finian's Oscar & Footpad all in the Arkle would make this a belter, at the same time ruining a lot of ante post bets for myself haha!

You say this, but remember, he's had as strong a pace to run at at Cheltenham and Leopardstown, if anything quicker over hurdles than he is likely to face over fences already, and failed to win at the top level over 2m, except as a juvenile.

His best form notably is over in France, when tried at intermediate distances, which, personally, was what my JLT bets/opinions were based on. I find it hard to really believe he will win this race, unless PM & FO both don't make it!

That said, you were on at 33/1 and I can't see him being outside the top 3, so assuming you played the E/W market that's a fair bet still.

Just because he's winning a race dosent make it his best form, beating devicebover 2m3 agreed excellent form. But his runs in the spring juvenile the triumph when well held up and made a mistake when already restrained out the back. He then flew home with far too much left to do. His runs behind petit mouchoir and in the champion hurdle are huge in relation to the opposition in this race. And he ran a mighty race in the punchestown stayers over 3 miles where he diddnt stay. He is very consistent and still young he's improving all the time. He jumps a fence excellently. On hurdles he's around 3 lengths behind petit mouchoir, every reason to think he could improve 3 lengths for a summer and the switch to fences. Especially when he will be getting the runs under his belt.

No ew. win only
33s arkle
16s any race. I don't bet by points more on instinct but would work out around. 1pt arkle.
5pts any race
For what it's worth I'd send him arkle and finians jlt on what iv seen so far. But connections may very much disagree with me.

He just never seems to get up over 2m at the top level for me, can't see that changing now he's over fences, admittedly he jumped extremely well, as well as anything we have seen so far, but I suspect the majority of what we have seen will improve massively in time and on the most part, of the top horses we have seen, Bacardys aside, most have jumped sufficiently well anyway for novices.
