2022 Gold Cup

RTV suggest Galvins next target is the Grade 1 at Down Royal. Doesn't scream 2022 GN tilt...
 
GC it is then. At least we can make a small profit by cashing in our GN bets.

Elliott stable tour mentions the national for him & being unsure if he’s up to gr1 level in open company so wouldn’t be too hasty there now
 
All part of Elliotts plan.

Win on debut, barely any hike in weight, pitched into a grade 1 lose convincingly, drop a few lbs and put him away after the race until the spring ground comes

Grand National here we come :glee:

He has run horses in that race that have then went to the national but they seem to have been his GN also rans rather than Tiger roll or any GN placed horse.

But not looking like it's the main aim right now

Depending on what mood the handicapper is in he could say he'd given 8lbs and a 3 length beating to a 157 rated horse in Brahma Bull and also him with a hefty whack

Even through Annamix a hike to 160 is reasonable.

I would consider the mark blown

Can't see any negative with that performance from Galvin today, from a Gold Cup perspective.

Off the back of a fair break, giving 8lbs to race fit rivals rated 157 & 152, much to like IMO, although further improvement obviously required.

The possible only negative will be if you've backed him for the GN, unfortunately, but I'm sure cash out (for those that have it) should still be kind if you feel he's going to be too high now.

This is Tiger Roll esque language. 'Hes not a grade 1 horse' (but can put up a grade 1 performance in the grand national). It will be interesting to see what Mr handicapper does after today

Spot on COD. On paper he does look Gordon's only hope for the GC having lost his beloved Envoi and I would be confident now that they'll target the big one in March. As you say, GN backers are likely to be able to cash out at a profit if they wish.

Has it? Annamix is a handicapper that’s probably rated too highly to actually win one, certainly wouldn’t get within 8 lengths or Minella indo or a plus tard. The handicapper will have his say on galvins performance today which could ultimately derail a national bid but I’d be amazed if he was a serious gold cup contender come March.

Horses over 160 just don't win the GN though FM. I think our Aintree dream is shot........for at least another year anyway. Gordon did say he could be a GN horse 'one day'.

Many clouds won off 160 not long ago.

It hasn't helped but just watched the race and be surprised if he's bumped up to 160 after that. Might be wrong but I think 3 or 4lb.

Less likely to run than this morning but I'm certainly not in a rush to cash out my betson him. I think I'd live to regret it.

I thought it was a good performance with the weight that GALVIN had and we know he's going to come on a lot for it as well as he is taking a good blow there. He's in the Ladbrokes Champion Chase at Down Royal and we could go there. He's a horse to look forward to for the rest of the season anyway. He was a bit slow over the second and third last and he never really does more than he has to. He only ever does enough. I think the Grand National would be more up his street than the Gold Cup to be honest - Gordon Elliott, trainer
