Since those 2 horses have been mentioned - has anyone heard anything on pencilfulloflead?

Had some incredibly smart form as a nvice, but loathe to pull the trigger just yet

Not heard anything, but given his appreciation of a soft surface i'd be loathed to fancy him for anything in the Spring

You'd have to even just a little? Can't decide on them in the NHC though, and i wanna see them before backing.
 
Well then... looked a little rusty, gave away weight, still went for it and won.
 
I had in my head that a win would mean I'd back him for the GC and a loss the GN.

Not sure if it was enough to make me push the button. 8lbs to Annamix isnt enough to make me excited - race fit or not

Looks like he might not be going down the cross country route, time for an antepost position re-think on my side!

My thoughts exactly, good performance and had me put the stake in but didnt press the button, 33s will probably hold for now so plenty time to have a good think about it.
 
Not sure what the purpose of that was for Galvin, he scraped home in a 5 runner G3 for about 15 grand which won't be anywhere near good enough for a Gold Cup tilt and probably puts his mark up a few pound blowing a National bid.
I'd love to hear the thinking here...
 
Dropped to 20s for the National too. Bit of a noob here but from what I have read he's unlikely to go for that now because of the weight he will be on?
Wondering whether to cash out my GN bet.

I think the manner of win still leaves a bit of room for manoeuvre. I'm probably in the minority but I expect him to take up his engagement in a couple of weeks and then be put away until the Cross Country.

trying to get my head round it too - can't see any other outcome than it fecking up his chances for the big one in April

The Grand National coup was on the assumption he would a school somewhere then take in a cross country or two then have a break until Spring, the fact he's been put in graded races in October suggests they think he has a shot at the top chases, which means his mark will get blown.
I'd say a National bid is now unlikely...

Completely agree, seems a baffling decision from Gordon surely the only reason could be them thinking there was a GC horse in there and wanting to test that but even then that seems baffling to do and risk what could've been a good National mark.

The horse isn't short of chasing experience, if you think you have a live Gold Cup horse then why not chuck him in a Feb trial after the National weights are out then head to Cheltenham and still have the option of Aintree about a stone well in ?
Can't help thinking Elliott is trying to make a few early season statements...

Just checked, that was the horses 10th chase start...
 
Limbo, I reckon for Galvin.
Although if he gets hiked more than 2lb for that then they've been unlucky.
Interesting to hear what connections say.

What’s all the more bizarre about this is the Gordon Elliot stable tour has just come out, and he says this about Galvin:

We are going to start him off in a Grade 3 chase at Punchestown today. He has some improvement to find to get involved in the best staying chases, so we’ll soon see where he slots in. He could be a Grand National horse someday.

The race and the comments just seem incompatible with each other.

Bit harsh Ista.

That was probably a career best by Galvin today and will earn him a mark of at least 160 and an rpr maybe a few pounds higher.

Cheltenham will suit him better than Punchestown and the extra two furlongs will help as well.

Imagine the purpose was to clear away the cobwebs and now have a tilt at the 70k grade one at Down Royal at the end of the month.

And if Galvin runs well there, they will put him away until next March - same as last year.

If you look at the Gold Cup betting the only horses above him in the market are Minello Indo, APT, Chantry House and Al Boum Photo and possibly Envoi Allen - although Henry's comments yesterday didn't fill me with confidence that he will be running over 3m 2f any time soon.

What were people expecting/hoping for? Galvin doesn't win by 10 lengths - he's a stalker who does enough to get the job done. As I've said before, he's not flashy.

40-1 each way is very decent in my book and 33-1 is still very decent when you consider Chantry House is best price 14s.

But I agree with you on his Grand National prospects - today doesn't help and the bookies decision to cut him to a general 20-1 is a joke or maybe just typical. Wouldn't be in a hurry to take that.

And I think we can forget all about the cross country.

Maybe Galvin wasn't fully fit today and Gordy has told Davy that if he had a chance go for it knowing there will be plenty of improvement to come? F**k knows.
