  • Does anyone remember last year if bet365 did that offer on the day of the grand national where you place a ew bet and they give you half the stake back?

Only issue I've encountered so far is website glitches. All my bets have been settled correctly and I've been able to withdraw OK although I only took out £50 to see if I could. In fact it was a lot harder depositing funds in the beginning as my documents had be uploaded exactly central,no glare etc.

I used this offer last year. Off the top of my head it was slightly later than usual before they made it available. Certainly hope they do it again this year.

            • Not sure they did it last year but they did the few years before 2023.

Fairly sure now that it was not available last year for the first time in a while.
The offers thread that eggs set up covers off peoples disappointment that it had been pulled, and someone contacted B365 and they confirmed it.
Think they gave 5 pound free bets instead

                • They 100% didn’t offer it last year cos I’d used it several years running previously. I recall everyone asking on line and they stated they wasn’t doing it last year. Hopefully it makes a return as it was the best offer out there by miles

                  • That's why they won't bring it back, too good for the punters

Yeh. I think there was a free bet offer and numerous 'super boosts' throughout the day

                      • Massive fall in betting turnover !
And the Racing Post banging on about affordability checks. As though they are the only issue worthy of mention.
I've not been impacted at all by affordability checks at all so far but get restricted from betting most days.

I'd love to know how much money/turnover has been refused by bookmakers systems. I wonder if they are even aware themselves.

I'd bet all the money I have that of all the stakes refused they'd have made a profit overall if they'd have taken on all the bets punters have wanted to make, or at least a bit more stakes than the programme's allow. And the turnover would have been ????

That's why they set the fucking odds like they do in the first place.

Good job we have an independent regulator who is there to protect the punters and ensure the system operates fairly....

                          • Do we ever think something will be done about restrictions and account closures or will it continue to get swept under the carpet ?

It can't change, they were allowed to go down the path of restriction and closure 20 years ago, the regulator never challenged them on this so it became adopted practice and has been here since.
Quevega makes the point that bookmakers profits would increase if they allowed restricted punters to bet because only a small fraction of them are winners, the majority just bet in a way their systems judge to be high risk so shuts them down.
The way racing is funded is the issue, the less turnover bookmakers get from racing equates to lower contribution to the sport, whoever allowed things to evolve the way they have needs shooting, bookmakers simply don't care about racing and would be happy taking no bets and focus on rinsing punters on casino games or massive edge percentages on sport markets...

The organisations and people that could do something about it simply won't as it's not in their own interests to do so.
