Yes I did Overturn. It was very pleasant. We were booked into the restaurant at the racecourse, but becuase of social distancing we were given a box, which was a very nice bonus. The weather was fantastic, it wasn't the usual massive crowd, so it was really pleasant to walk around the course enclosures. And to top it off a good friend of mine won the Plate with Francky De Berlais, so I was fortunate enough to be in the parade ring and winners enclosure.

In the evening. we had a second meal in The Advocate which is pretty much the only restaurant in Market Rasen. The restaurant was quiet and only half booked, but the food was very good. The town was very quiet after racing, not the usual buzz, but given it was 30 degrees it was nice to sit outside a couple of the local pubs and get a table easily.

We stayed at a farm at Cold Hanworth about 8 miles out of town. The original accomodation we booked was an appartment on the market square, but there was fire in the building next door 3 or 4 weeks ago, so they cancelled because of concerns and the need to get structural surveys done. I have to say the pace we stayed at was excellent, and we've already re-booked it for next year. The inconvenience of getting taxis was far outweighed by where we stayed.

We played Golf on the way up at Southwell. The front nine is within the racecourse, and there were a few horses galloping which obviously got our interest. The back nine was very good. A park course with some very nice interesting holes. The racecourse holes were a bit flat and uniteresting though. That said it was a good stop over point before we travelled up to the accomodation late Friday afternoon, and we'll probably play it again next year. We found a nice pub and beer garden just three or four miles from out accomodation called the Black Bull in Welton in the evening. It was buzzing and was definitely the kind of place that attracts people fom all around. The food was excellent, as was the beer and wine, and we finished the evening off with a couple of bottles of red in the courtyard at our completely remote and stunning accomodation.

All in all it was a fabulous weekend, and I'd very much recommend it to anyone looking for a weekend or even a day away at a summer jumps meeting. We go most years, and it's easily the best meeting around from May through to October.

….it’s a such a quaint course and a totally relaxed, informal and different days racing than I’ve experienced before.

It’s about pitching up with your own foldable chairs, cold box and settling down in a good spot along the rails, (we got alongside a fence). It’s not a good viewing course where you can follow the runners all around but you get up and close to the action. They race around the outside circuit but break off to finish in a straight down the centre. All spectators watch from the centre of the course either side of the straight.

One section appears to be where annual members park cars and have picnics out of the boot, but nobody seemed particularly bothered where you go, so we sat in that section rather than the other side of the straight which had a few fairground rides. Not sure I’d have enjoyed it so much if it was heaving, but the sun was baking and we had a very enjoyable day,

We stayed in a smart hotel alongside the course (Cartmel Old Grammar School) and honestly could’ve watched the racing from there without going in (tried to upload the view from our room but says the pic size is too big). Lots stay on an adjacent camp site. Type of place where you can take kids and even your dog.

I’d certainly go again.

:encouragement: already on it, my parents are booked for looking after the kids, will be there on the Saturday, possible the Friday as well. All depends if Coningbeg is going to run at Stratford on the 26th Oct then I hope to be there, so will give the Friday a miss then.

I drove past Down Royal racecourse the other day, can’t wait to attend.

Love this time of the year with the NFL starting again and the jumps season just around the corner. (what a cracking game last night was, very impressed with Dak and the Cowboys, they should walk their division, rambling on wrong thread here - sorry)

Definitely said 26th, but I only see Thursday 28th and it was a Thursday last year. :cower:

I see Happygolucky started off here last year in a beginners Chase, hopefully Connie can be the star this year from the meeting. :triumphant:

:glee: If she makes the mares novice hurdle, it would be dreamland, I am happy to see her run at a few meetings and anything else is a bonus.

I am sure you will pick another cracker out this year again for the ‘Doing A Naiad’. Happygolucky was very unlucky last year.
 
I am going to be heading to the October meeting at Cheltenham. Over the course of the past year, I've managed to build up a fair stack of Rewards4Racing points, meaning I have more than enough to enjoy a day of hospitality in the National Hunt Room. It sounds good, but just wondering if anyone has done it before and whether they'd recommend it?
 
Off to Plumpton next Sunday the 19th , first time i will have been since last nov , also at Plumpton .

Going as well BigChaang with a couple of mates. First time we’ve been to the course, so was going to ask if anyone had any pointers - for the card and the course!

Never been there but remember the great John Francome saying 'If the world had a backside then Plumpton racecourse would be in the middle of it'. He was talking about it from a jockeys perspective though :chuncky:

Will certainly be there myself. Fully plan to attend every day this season
 
Hello lads, just new here.

Are you all regular racegoers (once a week or so) or just pick and choose a meeting every now and again ? The reason i ask is that a lot of my friends have either packed in going altogether or have limited themselves to just three or four meetings a year. One lad in particular (widowed) would go at least twice a week but now says he has been sickened off by the attitude of quite a few tracks who he says only seem interested in hospitality packages, music nights etc and the rest can just suck it up. And i read on another forum about another lad who was a regular who has packed in going due to astronomical food and drink prices and also the attitudes of some tracks. I would have thought that in this day and age, tracks would bend over backwards to keep their regulars but that doesnt seem to be the case.
