On a more positive note I highly recommend watching or listening to anything with Bill Burr. The man is best comic on the planet at present IMHBEO. Watch his specials on Netflix and listen to his podcast rants on YouTube, he’s really funny and uplifting, he’ll make you feel a lot happier

Not sure if we have any old school World of Warcraft fans in the house, but this post has unearthed an immense desire to say "*ding* gratz"

My main coping mechanism in case it helps anyone else, has been darts.

Darts is a huge part of my work social scene - we have a board in the office and a few of us started a team. We playing in a very low standard league in London and still lost ever game. I was missing it so much.

I bought a board you can put on a strap that goes around the door (and very soon afterwards, a rubber surround).

Every lunch time I go into the bedroom, strap up, play a couple of games against dart bot, then do this practise routine app.

Been watching youtube on how to improve my throw, experimenting with weight and flights (30g Harrows Razr, with mini flights = BEAST MODE)

It's still an infuriating game (i start nailing T19 and all of a sudden can't throw a single 20), but the tracking is satisfying. My scores have increased 3x over the last 7 months, and my double out % has gone from sub 2% to 17.6% on a good day. Makes it all feel like I'm getting somethine out of it all.

But mostly, that hour is (mostly) so relaxing. Taking position, lining up the shot, keeping form - it's like yoga for big lads

Love a good game of darts! Very similar to golf in that you can be excellent one day and then rubbish the next.

Little story.. I played darts for the local pub last year at uni. Went unbeaten from November until cheltneham week in my singles and doubles matches (obviously didn’t play during Cheltenham week as I was there). Played a lot with uni mates between lectures and was genuinely playing 4/5 days a week at times. Willing to say I would’ve classified myself as pretty good. The captain of the county team was apparently going to come to my next league game at the end of that month when lockdown hit and I haven’t had a match since. Think that’s as close as I’ll ever come to making it a success in a sporting context :excitement:

Have a dart board back at home since I moved back from uni but can’t motivate myself to practice on my own and now I’m confident I’ll be nowhere near my previous standard.

Crackitn sport though. Have you ever done Ally Pally for the world championship? Went a couple of years ago. Brilliant night. Just a glorified party/piss up. It’s great. Definitely recommend it for those who like the sport and, to a slightly lesser extent, those who don’t!

Yeah done Ally Pally a few times. Always try to go to the earlier rounds as it becomes a proper c**t fest in the later ones. One year got taken on a work jolly to the afternoon session. Just sat there while they brought me jugs. Was great...until I had to stand up. We went as a team last year and our best player couldn't come (he'd almost died, very serious) so we went in fancy dress as him, masks of his face, tshirts with what we'd sing at him during matches, was gas craic.

The first time I went tho, was about 12ish years ago. Had just got back from a city break where I erroneously thought lots of amorous interactions were on the cards. I'd forgotten to empty my bag and when the guy searched it he just pulled out an absolute bundle of prophylactics. Security guy starts playing it up "Where do you think you are mate, everyone here is trying to smuggle in coke!", I'm getting chanted at by the queue. Genuinely wanted the ground to swallow me whole

He's excellent in the film The King of Staten Island, which is on Sky movies right now.
Very decent movie.

I need to watch that film, it’s a biography of the comedian Pete Davidson whose dad was a firefighter who died in 9/11 towers collapse, I’ve heard it really good. Bill Burrs stand up specials on Netflix are incredibly good for anyone looking to be cheered up, his miserable angry thoughts on life are amazing. I’m a big fan of Sean Lock too, his misery makes me howl

Forgot about the fireman link.
You should really enjoy the film I reckon.

A few people have said I remind them of Sean Lock (not looks wise though).

I’ve seen Sean Lock live a few times, he’s brilliant, I love sour pessimism and he’s a master at it

Talking about humour being a good reliever for being down in the dumps, your post is even better if you cut out the bit about darts Robith. :highly_amused:

Ally Pally...The Frying Pan spent many a day/evening there watching Scobie and Lester battle it out in a finish.

I was looking forward to this being my week in the office to hurry the time along to the weekend, and I started coughing yesterday and have just tested positive :boxing:
