Supreme Novices Hurdle 2020

surely the owners will want to keep Asterion Forlonge and Shiskin apart so Shiskin supreme and Asterion Forlonge Ballymore

It was on William Hill radio but haven’t read any quotes from Hendo/Nico since to confirm

Saying it 'sounds like connections are favoring the Ballymore' reads like they have said as much, not the lads off William Hill radio ffs:)

Happy with that. Would like to see him out again before Cheltenham in deeper water but hard not be impressed with that. I wanted to see him settle which he did, and jump well (or just full stop :)) which he did. Hard not to be impressed with the turn of foot he showed on heavy ground to put the race to bed.

I wouldn't read too much into chat about Shishkin Ballymore tbh.

I'd be wary about Shishkin being as fast as he looked. I am not a fast runner but if the guy I was racing slowed to a slow jog and I was sprinting I would sprint away from them and look fast. Not knocking him and I hope for ones who are on him at good prices he's a machine but just something to think about

Pp still 25/1 shishkin after the race

Yes I took the 25/1, gratefully received.

I have him at 25/1 Any Race from a while back. Would see him more as a 2M for the owner than Asterion Forlonge .

Shishkin did that impressively indeed.

Imo supreme would be his best chance, always a strongly run race so no harm having a little stamina for the finish and the change of gear.

Owner has Asterion Forlonge for the ballymore see no reason for that to change. We shall see if course.

Mullins/Townend said he'd prefer to go over further.

Nico said Shishkin would prefer further.

Both point winners? Hard to know which is the owner's Ballymore runner?

Run-in time for Shishkin was good, bettering two 120 horses in the handicaps. One that won by 19ls as well.

Obviously thats just a run-in time and full race sectionals are better.

Nicky will look to avoid Envoi Allen so I expect them to try and make him into a supreme horse until the horse proves hes not.

True, can remember Mullins saying the same post race re AF.

Shishkin quickened away really nicely from the last hurdle. Get the ground was pretty bad but the strong pace of supreme could suit imo.

Wasn't as impressed as others regarding Shishkin. (Which is often the case when you watch something back after knowing the result)

The 2nd was eased down and Shishkin was ridden to the line as if he was in a head-bobber. :concern:

Not one to get carried away with?

I see Hendo won the race with 'Beyond Conceit' before... it doesn't scream festival winning path either?

Nico riding him right to the line might have just been as it was his first completed start? Giving him a decent blowout?

Same with any sport imo no fitness like match fitness. With him falling previously running out of time to get (completed) runs into him, surely one more run up in grade if possible?

He did settle a lot better and jumped well imo.

Suppose we will need to wait and see on next entry

15 seconds above standard in heavy is very good first time out

Unless youve backed Saldier and you need him to as good as the fit horses when youve only run once in 11 months, or you could just throw that theory straight out the window lol

Abacadabras pushed out a little today ??

Shishkin certainly looked good , considering they crawled for the first two furlongs and Nico took a little while to settle him. The way he went clear doing all his best work in final furlong only bodes well. Another run before festival he could be short price afterwards.

Supreme always helter skelter and I believe that will definately help Shishkin settle early in race saving valuable energy for the business end.The uphill finish will also help him use that stamina.

I would be amazed if Shishkin went Ballymore for same reason others have already muted regarding AF going here. The Big Getaway goes Albert Bartlett.Owner will call the shots not jockey or trainer I reckon , plus Nicky has another potential good un in Chantry House who looks Ballymore bound.
Only negatives would be his race experience and perhaps he not good enough , still value and more than happy with my 33/1 , only wish I had more on.

That’s true haha!

Possibly slightly different with animals and humans.

But still working on the gallops surely wouldn’t be the same from the jockey as well? So that sort of affects the horses performance doesn’t it?
