Supreme Novices 2017

I actually feel annoyed about this story. The bookies are coming out and reporting this huge amount they'll stand to lose? Give me a break! This is publicity, it is getting punters to believe the hype around a horse and I am half tempted to start laying Melon myself because his price is going to be too short. Even if he wins easier than Douvan did... this is just the bookies making us all look like idiots!

Anyone backing Melon at the price he is now (unless they have the SOLE INTENTION of laying it off on the day) should take a long and hard look at whether gambling is for them!

Bookmakers are no longer traditional bookmakers, they do not reduce odds based on the money they take for specific horses instead they seem to shorten their odds based on what their competitors prices are or more so what the exchanges say, unfortunately that is how it is nowadays, and on Betfair alone the horse with the most money traded on it for the Supreme is guess who....Melon!

As far as remaining Long Shots go- Top Ville Ben for Hendo over at Wincanton tomorrow?

33/1 and could he book his place as part of the Hendo team? Nicky not afraid to go double handed or even triple (2011) in this race.

Looking at team Mullins' hand for this race- I am of the opinion that they will run Airlie Beach here and hand the mares novice to Camilia De Cotte or Augusta Kate.

This year is not like the last few where they have a stone cold favourite for the Supreme. It's one race they have less of a stranglehold on and I think they have enough good mares to afford to throw Airlie Beach at this- especially after Saturnas gave the form a boost.

I think the owners of Airlie Beach said they'll leave it up to Mullins, but it is nice to have a fav for a race at Cheltenham and they have Bunk Off Early who could be a Supreme horse...

I doubt they'd have two in the Supreme and leave one with a favourites chance behind ... (although I am sure you're right that Mullins COULD win it with any other) but equally, he probably has better chances in the Supreme and the ones (like Augusta Kate and Let's Dance) that he could put in against the boys with a mares allowance over further...

Definitely take NRNB if you're going in?

Im in syndicate that owns Top ville ben he wont go to chelt this year.

Senewalk 33/1 supreme, hes had the wind op, what chance he runs next few weeks, if he does, what chance he goes off fav for this race, ive had a few quid nrnb on him.

In the latest Mark Howard publication it reports senewalk has been working very well at home after his wind op. Would need a run in the next few weeks if he was to make the festival. Interesting though.

They did start him off over 2m 5 (perhaps knowing that Melon was their supreme horse)

:encouragement: worth adding a few lines 33 NRNB with 365.

have you a link for it?

Senewalk has an entry in this and the Neptune

I hope he does run and after the wind op shows what he did in that piece of work last summer.

If I was Mullins/Ricci I Would rather take my chance in an open looking race/s than having a gamble on next year where some trainers may have world beaters.

Nothing gets you more excited than the curtain raiser for the fest!!!

Willie Mullins has won three of the last four renewals of the Skybet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle and five times in total. Unlike in recent years, the stable have yet to unleash what appears a potential superstar in this division, although Melon was an emphatic winner at Leopardstown last Sunday. Crack Mome fluffed his lines in the Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle at Punchestown last month, a race Mullins has traditionally used as a ‘trial’ for his number one Supreme contender. Ironically, another ex-French horse SENEWALK was touted a possible winner of the Festival opener during the summer and Autumn. However, the Walk In The Park gelding could only finish sixth on his hurdles debut at Punchestown (2m 4f) in November. Headed between the final two flights, he faded tamely and was eventually beaten by nearly twenty five lengths. It late emerged that the five year old was struggling with his breathing. Given a wind operation since, he is reportedly back in work and going extremely well at home. Time is running out but, assuming he returns to action within the next couple of weeks and wins impressively, the 33/1 (BetVictor, Boylesports, Coral, Ladbrokes, William Hill (money back as a free bet) & Skybet (25/1 NRNB)) currently available could look very big.

I think this year may be a trend breaker for a lot of the novice races.

Could Jenkins or Senewalk bounce back at massive odds?
