Supreme Novices 2017

Really like Charli Parcs in this.

Really travelled all over the field at Chepstow on 27th December and Dying to see him out this weekend.

I'm hoping he goes this route cause I'm quite big on Merie Devie for the triumph.

Only gone in 2 points on Skybet single but have him in multiples with Jezki, Bellshill, Finians Rainbow and Faugheen

Do we think Charli Parcs is a supreme winner or best chance in the triumph?

Totally agree with you and Kev.

Charli gets a mention in this/

Cilaos Emery tipped though.

With the Deloitte Novice Hurdle looming large in the middle of next month, the novice hurdle division also looks worth dipping into.

Mullins has sent out the last three Deloitte winners, Champagne Fever and Vautour going on to win the Sky Bet Supreme Novices Hurdle, and he is responsible for a remarkable 21 entries in the Leopardstown Grade One this year.

The well-touted Melon is conspicuous by his absence and is seemingly heading for a maiden hurdle at Gowran Park this week instead, but all the other big names are engaged, including CILAOS EMERY.

He's the shortest of the Mullins brigade for the Supreme but still has the potential to shorten considerably from the 10/1 available with Betfair Sportsbook (8/1 generally, including NRNB with Sky Bet) and is well worth adding to the portfolio prior to the Deloitte.

He won his only outing last term when scoring in a 17-runner bumper at the Punchestown Festival and while that form hasn't worked out brilliantly, he could not have been more impressive when taking a maiden hurdle apart at Navan in December.

And there is substance to that form which suggests he could go right to the top this season. Only one of the 13 horses to have subsequently raced from that maiden has won, but importantly that one is the second Joey Sasa, who was beaten six lengths by the Mullins runner and in turn had eight and a half lengths to spare over the rest.

Not only did Joey Sasa strike next time out from subsequent 12-length Fairyhouse winner Barra, but he had previously finished a neck second to Brelade, who went on to finish a two-length second to Cilaos Emery's stablemate Saturnas in the Grade One Future Champions Novice Hurdle over Christmas.

These form lines are undeniably strong and suggest Cilaos Emery could be a genuine top-notcher who is going to announce himself in a big way on February 12.

The Supreme market still has quite a strange look to it, with the 141-rated Moon Racer proving a little uneasy at the head of the betting having not been seen since winning the Cheltenham trial that Altior took en route to victory last year.

With one or two doubts over him, punters are seemingly turning to Nicky Henderson's juvenile Charli Parcs.

Henderson recently suggested he was hoping the horse could develop into 'the new Binocular' and with that in mind he could obviously take a similar route to him and head for the Supreme as a four-year-old, rather than the Triumph Hurdle, for which he is half the price at 7/1.

It would also make some sense to keep Charli Parcs and current Triumph favourite Defi Du Seuil apart from one another considering they're in the same ownership. All may become a little clearer after the weekend as they are both entered in Saturday's JCB Triumph Trial Juvenile Hurdle.

JP McManus also has Consul De Thaix in the mix for the Supreme and he gets the chance to enhance his reputation when lining up from a mark of 140 in the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury.

Get Me Out Of Here was beaten a head in the Supreme for McManus in 2010 after winning the Newbury race from a perch of 135 so if Consul De Thaix goes close then he is at least entitled to line up in the Grade One curtain-raiser at the Festival.

But the Supreme has been dominated by Mullins in recent seasons and above all others it's the immense potential of Cilaos Emery that looks to have been underestimated.

Travelled and and jumped brilliantly but it was at kempton not chepstow, looked more of an Aintree horse to me!

I keep pressing Cilaos Emery, that performance at Navan gets better every time I look at it.
I have to have the NRNB insurance because should he underperform or get injured this weekend and not make it to March I'd like my money back...

Any more news regarding Jenkins?

Nicky replied to someone's tweet about Jenkins with the following:

@sevenbarrows: he's coming along nicely, thank you. It's all about gaining his confidence. Cheltenham still on agenda (hopefully)

That was posted on Tuesday so all is not lost.

Fingers crossed... The exchange price doesn't seem to quite back that up.. I guess it's not just a case of whether he turns up but which Jenkins turns up as well

Hendo can't afford another Binocular debacle, his stock line will be 'the aim is Cheltenham unless we have a setback' which pretty much covers all angles...

Melon declared to run sunday !

Irish Racing on him

By Eamonn Murphy - As ever I'd prefer to see strong positive market signals rather than strong talk when it comes to an unknown quantity, which in this case is MELON. The Medicean gelding, off for 506 days, won one of his four starts on the level in France, and he is prominent in the betting for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham. His jockey Ruby Walsh told Racing UK: "He did a few nice pieces of work last year but I think Melon has done a hell of a lot more talking than galloping at this stage. He does go well and is a horse we like but he has to translate that into form."

Back in front won that race on way to Supreme success.

Looking forward to seeing Melon. LAst chance saloon for the Irish to have a jolly in this race I fear though and there is going to be a HUGE over reaction if he does win?

Hope that the Jenkins drift isn't confirmed that he is out, I think (and probably hope more than anything) he is still a player!

However, I didn't press the button on Charli Parcs for this at 8s NRNB, but I have tonight at 7/1. I watched him back again, and with BG picking him tomorrow, despite the 'soft' in the going that DDS needs... speaks volumes to me about which one is potentially the best. With the rating DDS has (155) he is good enough already to win the Triumph, but CP could be better, go for the Supreme and end up being a Champion Hurdler. I don't like lazy comparisons like "he's the next Binocular" but it isn't that much of a leap. Combination of watching the race again and the jockey booking prior to the run tomorrow... NRNB because I am a wimp but 12/1 won't be around by 12:15 tomorrow!

DDS not guaranteed to run tomorrow.

Charli Parcs and Defi Du Seuil, principals for the JCB Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March, have been declared to clash in the Grade 2 trial on Saturday's card, which is registered as the Finesse.

JP McManus owns the pair and his racing manager Frank Berry said on Friday morning: "At the moment Charli Parcs is a definite runner. Defi would only run if the ground becomes very heavy, in which case it's possible Charli Parcs wouldn't run. Nothing is set in stone, though."

Would have to put you off DDS in any race at all comments like that?

will be a horrible rule 4 if he doesnt run - that looks like a no bet race

CP at 1/2 (2/5) is a certainty with no DDS? With the deduction? 1/4? ALL IN? :devilish:

Melon running in what looks like a very moderate race today. it'll become much clearer after the deloitte imo

Iv never seen a supreme as open as this, the top 15/20 horses in the betting all have decent cases to be made.. What is the max limit of the field ?
