Ryanair Chase 2018

I’m sure Cue Card will run creditably, but to win it, at 12 years old, after running his heart out on soft ground 4 weeks before, to me that would take some training performance. And I haven’t got too much faith in the tizzards. I don’t think Un De Sceaux is at the peak of his powers over likely ground and trip (thus why I hadn’t backed him), but he likely won’t have to be to win this now. Even if Yorkhill runs he’s closely matched with Top Notch whose form took a kicking last time out (even with the excuse of unsuitable ground). Waiting Patiently and Min (could argue we don’t fully know what he’s got over the trip) I would back against Un De Sceaux but if neither of those two run I can’t see an alternative
 
Would you not agree that Un De Sceaux dictacted to Ruby in this race last year though KB?

I agree with you regarding Cue Card and the fact he might ALWAYS have been better suited to a Ryanair though. I tend to think "the public" go a little over board with the first year he fell (a little bit like The New One when hee was hampered)

He could have been a multiple Ryanair winner.... however they OBVIOUSLY were right to attempt the Gold Cup those years.... this year they're right to come back...
 
Looking at this more and more I really do think cue card may be the last bit of tasty antepost value we can get, looking at the market Waiting Patiently, Min, Douvan, Yorkhill, Benie Des dieux all won't go, Top notch he finished ahead of the last day and now with Fox Norton out theres even less competition. Obviously wish I took 20/1 or whatever he was NRNB before his target was set but still think the prices we can get now are nice prices and would be shocked if he didn't go off shorter on the day.

Willoughby court not 100 % ruled out though , Pauling says a decision to be made in the next 2 or 3 days.

I'll have to completely re-think this again but instints say UDS even of watered "good" ground has a few lbs in hand of anything else now.

Just wondering now , Obviously there's Snow everywhere now , and the forecast for Cheltenham now has Light rain forecast for
the 5 days up to the 12th of March ., So just thinking the going could well stay good to soft all week ?.
And yes , That will suit U.D.S .

Don't worry they will find some other excuse not to run. Just a question of when they make the announcement. After the initial interest I think people have given up asking.

Couldn't agree more. Fearful of getting beat. Its one of the most common flaws in the sporting sphere. Just imagine if WP was Irish trained, they'd have the whole town buzzing for Cheltenham.
 
I think it’s really harsh having a go at connections of waiting patiently. They clearly campaign their horses with the welfare of the horse as the main aim, that’s to be applauded surely. That’s what you’d want as an owner. They know that horse better than any of us
 
It looks like this race has become a gimmee for Un De Sceaux. I make him a banker now. I can only see Top Notch for the fcst.

The implication is that the 99/100 who would run don't care as much about their horse. Racing is sometimes about or should be about the challenge when not everything is in your favour.

Come on Rob its just a cop out from the Trainer/Owner. Look at UDS, Soft,G/S,G he'll be running. Ask the owners of UDS if they care about the horse.

I heard them say he doesn’t suit good ground because of some long standing issue with the horses joints, so it’s 100% that they are looking out for the welfare of the horse. I would like to think a lot of owners wouldn’t flog the horse in that situation. He also is picking up plenty of top pots and prize money running in big races when the ground suits, so it’s a no brainer not to run him on good ground

A cop out how? They’re scared of what? UDS hasn’t got an issue on good ground, he’s just not as good. Massive difference

Horse welfare for me everytime, assuming that is the actual reason of course.

Horses are bred to be run, but IMO, it needs to be the right conditions for any one particular horse.

Yeah I concur - don't get people getting aggro about it. They've been clear, and their aim is the longevity of the horse.to be applauded I feel

They’ve been completely open about how they campaign the horse from day 1. So anyone going in on him not nrnb only has themselves to blame (including me who had a little on him any race). I think if it’s good to soft they may well still run him

Cheltenham is the OLYMPICS of racing. All this reverse psychology that its not the be all and end all is utter claptrap. Those who say that are the ones who are scared of getting beat.
