Ryanair Chase 2018

Little bit miffed at missing the 20/1 because although this looked the obvious decision all indications were that he was heading for the Gold Cup. With or without Waiting Patiently (and almost certainly without) a reproduction of anything close to Ascot gives him a great chance. Really hope Brennan rides another positive race and really puts Un De Sceaux under pressure.

Lad are now 6/1 NRNB for Fox Norton and the target is now all but confirmed....

UDS is fav and Waiting Paitently both fav...

I think it is FAIR to say that neither SHOULD be Fav on the expected Good ground (WP won't run and UDS defintiely isn't optimum conditions)

Next in is Fox Norton... [will come back to]

Then Top Notch (who ran below par and doesn't strike me as the winner as I covered in an earlier more detailed post)
Min (won't run)
Balko Des Flos - I give him place claims but BDF winning the Ryanair? Not the best Gigginstown horse to have tried which isn't solid reason to knock him personally but ... all the same.
DOuvan (unlikely runner!)
Yorkhill, would need an almighty bounce back to last years form
Cloudy Dream, place claims only for me
Frodon, again, looks well held and only has place claims
Benie Des Dieux - unlikely runner, no form entitles her to be that short
Djakadam - will be going GC
Cue Card - looks like going GC (although I have got a biggish exchange price so hope not) ...
Coney Island - impossible to fancy on the back
Bachasson - I like but place claims ... not even the owners best chance.
GOld Present - won't be running
Killultagh Vic - Won't be running
Sub Lieut - Well held and couldn't do it previously
Not going to do the rest but no obvious chances!

So back to Fox Norton.... 6/1, pick 3 ahead of him on good ground? I can't. Reluctantly admit he's got more chance than UDS on good ground, and WP won't run.... which means for me Fox Norton should be fav.

I had 2.5 pts any race earlier in the season

Going to add Fox Norton NRNB at 6/1 now to make him my biggest winner in the race.

My stance all season has been I want to see the market form.... however now there are only Min, Douvan and Potentially Yorkhil ltrhat I can see being fav usurping UDS... and UDS I think can be taken on ...... because if the ground is good, he's vulnerable, and if its soft, Waiting Paitently would run and beat him anyway?

I've not been keen on Fox Norton all season.... and this is quite a U-turn really for me... but ALL of my fancies have fallen by the wayside.... Yorkhill, Coney Island, Top Notch, Waiting Paitently ...

Note - I do have a few others backed in this race!

I know what your'e gonna say Kev , But you haven't mentioned " Bellshill " there !, And he won today !.

I imagine he's going to the National and not going to Cheltenham? Not heard anything though that could be way off?

Don't know , But does have an entry in the Ryanair chs .

I see the Tizzard's have managed to talk some sense into Mrs. Bishop. Can't believe I'm considering backing a 12 year old for this race but Cue Cards run behind Waiting Patiently at Ascot really surprised & impressed me. Conditions favoured WP that day and with his connections not likely to risk him on better ground i think at 12/1 Cue Card is well worth an e/w punt. Un De Sceaux could find one too good for him on good ground. Think il take a chance that it might be CC.

Would be nice to see him win a big race and get the retirement he deserves...

He's an interesting contender. Very easy to see one beating him...but each way...

UDS - solid
Waiting Paitently - Not going
Fox Norton - solid
Top Notch - Cue Card beat him at Ascot?
Min - Not running here
Cue Card.... certainly worse each way pokes!

Then

Balko Des Flos, who hasn't got form as strong as Cue Cards?
Douvan - unlikely runner
Yorkhill - massive questions to answer?
Cloudy Dream - I'd genuinly expect the 12yo to finish be ahead at every fence and the line
Frodon - Held by Cue Card at Ascot...
Djakadam - Not running
Benie Des Dieux, Bachasson, Gold Present - all not running etc....

Great decision by connections re Cue Card. Renewed my faith in the Tizzards. Just got to get Elegant Escape right now and he’s back on my Christmas Card list.

Well,

Bellshill - needs further

:p

What distance is the Gold cup ?............ , Where i originally thought he might go . and had 50-1 . But i'm not bitter and twisted
about it . :highly_amused:

Not the news I wanted to hear:sorrow::sorrow:

Falling into Un De Sceaux’s lap this race. And I haven’t a penny on him. Fox Norton was my choice if good ground, Waiting Patiently if soft. Unbackable for me UDS at 2/1 ish, so final hope is that Douvan or Min go here as have them in some multiples

I only have him covered in a Double with Cause of Causes (@29's) from October - happy enough with that for now.
