Question for the Champ fans...

Are you convinced he'll stay 3m at Cheltenham well?

Seemed to sprint away yesterday rather than outstay them, and looking back at the Sefton at Aintree, they crawled and were all on the bridle at top of the home straight - wouldn't have been a true 3m test.

Thinks Champ will stay longer than the mother in law :highly_amused:

He didn't exactly rocket up the hill in the Ballymore. Lost ground on both City Island and Bright Forecast from the back of the last and distance back to Brewinupastorm was about the same at the last and the line... despite Brewin fluffing the last.

I'm certain he'll stay it.

I am not certain he'll stay it the best....but you don't have the energy to sprint at the end if you have no stamina.

I think you have a valid point with his hurdle form.
But the run Friday to my eye he looked more like a stayer.
Think he'll be fine, but you're on right lines really as he's not a proven 'slow horse,' if you know what i mean.

Champ's jumping would make me put a line through him alone. I'd also question whether he'd stay. I suppose you have to ask what will be up against him to run the stuffing out of him and that's not very much.

How many horses get tried in a grade 2 on their chase debut and win?

I cant think of any. Kauto Star, Denman, Sprinter Sacre all made their uk chase debuts in novice company.

An outstanding performance. He will come on a tonne for fitness and another tonne for that experience. He already looks the festival banker and should be favourite. I expect he will be favourite come the day.

When you get thrown into the deep end and end up swimming comfortably on your 1st ever chase run then you have to be special.

That was a Grade 2 only in name. I’m not disputing the performance but that was a piss poor turnout.

Horses dont make debuts in grade 2s. He is a machine. You only need to look at him once to realise that nothing will be able of competing with him in the RSA in March. This horse is on a different planet.

i think the overstatements are from the people who think that horse who is a complete unnatural over fences is a certainty for the RSA.

Danny Whizbang is the best chasing debutant I have ever seen in my entire life and he needed the run. I can genuinely say I have never seen a better chasing debut than what I saw yesterday.

Champ cannot be mentioned in the same breath as this horse.

Let’s be honest, lots of horses could have won weak graded races on debut but most trainers will always introduce them via a novice event. Not because they’re not good enough, it’s just a common practice.

Lalor was a much more battle hardened horse having ran in 4 bumpers including winning the grade 1 bumper at aintree festival and was a grade 1 hurdle winner. When he made his chase debut in a grade 2 chase he was having his 10th racecourse start.

Danny Whizbang was unfit had started training much later than most of the Nicholls string due to his wind operaton and had previously only had 2 racecourse starts in a class 4 maiden hurdle round Hereford and a class 4 novice round Exeter.

You would need rocks in your head not to realise how great this horse is going to be as a novice this season.

Maybe, but he named a horse that won a Grade 2 on debut, who was crap throughout most of the rest of the season.

For all that, I actually agree with you with regards to Danny Whizzbang, I really liked that performance, and backed accordingly, however the constant 'winding up' lines of 'on a different planet' is a little bit tedious
