RSA Chase 2019

Lostintranslation not one for me in any race. Makes too many mistakes and conversion rate into wins is very poor.

LBAR would much rather on my side as she does win races. Maybe not quite good enough for the festival but you will get a good run for your money at a good each way price on the day (maybe with enhanced places perhaps)

La Bague Au Roi maintained her unbeaten record over fences when taking a step up in class in her stride with a commanding front-running victory in the Ladbrokes Novices’ Chase at Newbury.

Having run out a winner on her chasing debut at the track earlier in the month, the Warren Greatrex-trained seven-year-old successful followed it up in the Grade Two prize better known as the Berkshire Novices’ Chase.

Putting in another sold round of jumping, the 5-4 favourite ground her rivals into submission from the front to defeat Talkischeap by seven lengths.

The winner was cut from 14-1 into 10-1 for the JLT Novices’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival by Paddy Power.

Greatrex said: “She is brilliant. Richard Johnson said she is doing it all within herself. We always thought fences would be the making of her and it seems to be that way. For a big horse, she is quick.

“When you unleash her, she is gone. Hopefully it is onwards and upwards. She has always been a very well-balanced mare for the size of her.

“I said to Richard, ‘is she a Grade One horse over fences?’, and he said, ‘for sure’. She deserves to win a Grade One.

“Whether she goes for the Kauto Star (Novices’ Chase, on Boxing Day), I don’t know, as she does lug left, although she has won around there (Kempton).”

LBAR more likely for the JLT? When she gets beaten in the Kauto Star it'll be the only option? As short as 10/1, no chance I'd part with my money at that price. A bit flattered today by the mistake by her main rival?

She could go either. But i think she might well win that personally.

Trainer was very reluctant on Cheltenham when interviewed after the race.

Interesting, haven't seen it but I'll ask him nearer the time. Will take a very good one to beat her next time.

Says flat tracks suit her long stride. He can't see the RSA being the race for her.

If she's setting the standard, the current crop of Gold Cup horses have nothing to fear from the novices next year.

She'll not be top in the 10 by the end of the season.

Flat track, early season, over-hyped Greatrex flop :p

I would agree with this.

Have you not backed a horse she's beat twice now? Keep lining them up. She'll get them beat. Best jumper of a fence we've seen to date.

No, that was Lalor

I’ll cover Lostintranslation first. He jumped very well again and was going stride to stride with LBAR until his race ending mistake. At the time he was still going well so no one can say what the outcome would have been. I suspect it would have been a similar defeat as before. I’ve backed Lostintranslation for the JLT and I’d disagree with comments saying he should go up in trip for the RSA or even the 4 miler! Yes he’s by Flemensfirth but there is speed on the dam side so I’d say the JLT or RSA would be his trip if he proves good enough. He is still very inexperienced so I won’t cash out anything but he’ll probably face better than LBAR at Cheltenham so he’s going to have to improve as the season goes on again, like he did last year.

LBAR jumped excellently again but due to racing the same horses, it’s hard to know what the form amounts to. I’d say it’s relatively decent form but there are many big hands still to be played on both sides of the Irish Sea. Her Cheltenham and general form around that time is not great so that should be a concern. Lastly, she’s won more races (12) than the others had even started in so experience was on her side and she’ll lack the same progression that the others are open to.

I've got 1 pt on Lostintranslation any race at 22/1.

Between the two, she's shown she's better so far.... but my point was she won't be near the top when it matters... I wouldn't write off Lostintranslation, he had a race ended mistake so the form isn't to be taken literally - I Don't fancy him strongly in March at the moment, but I haven't backed him as if I do.

Santini looks an absolute tank! Reminds me of Denman.

Hopefully will confirm Kilbricken Storm as being a NH Chase horse now as won't be getting near Santini @ the festival.

Loved that performance, he'll have learned a lot from that.

It sets the standard

awesome from santini
