RSA Chase 2019

What price would you take for 2020 Gold Cup?

Bigger than 40/1

If Presenting Percy was 40/1 for the Gold Cup when fav for the RSA, then in December I'd want a much bigger price than 40/1.

Santini is my biggest bet of the week so was absolutely delighted with that. Especially as he looks certain to be better on better ground. Absolutely laden with stamina. I think you'd expect him to be novicey at a few on debut, but overall I thought he jumped very safely albeit not electric. But Id gladly take that of the two for this race.

I loved that debut from Santini today. What a brute of a horse. Agree on the Denman comparisons. Just ozzes absolutely class and quality. And doesn't get going until the business end of races.

Once the RequestaBet comes back up from Sky i'll be hoping for the 40's/50's (i'be lucky?!) for the Gold Cup 2020 that's for sure

For Santini we (as backers at doubles figures) were hoping he's a better chaser than hurdler (As Nicky Henderson has suggested would be the case).... you couldn't disagree with that, however he was priced as if that was the case beforehand, so I wouldn't get too jiggy about backing him again at his current price... for all that he is the one to beat now.

Sky have updated their odds for Santini - 16-1 for 2020 Gold Cup and 33-1 for the RSA/2020 Gold Cup double!!!

Santini was very impressive today without having to really get out of 3rd gear, he is a big laid back tank, definitely shades of Denman about him! He clearly stays all day, only slight nick pick would be he wasn’t massively quick through the air but the ground at Newbury was very sticky and not many were flying over them and it was his first go over fences so I’m clutching at straws a little. Pity Kilbricken Storm couldn’t give him a sterner test! We’ll see a few of the Irish RSA hopefuls in the Drinmore tomorrow in particular Delta Work & Discorama.

Looking forward to the Kauto Star @ Kempton already. Nicholls is on RacingUK tomorrow so hopefully get a idea when my lad gets his run! Im hopeful he has the stride & crusing speed to trouble Santini in the future!

If you consider Presenting Percy (40/1) and Monalee (33/1) were those prices for the RSA/Gold Cup double just before the RSA I'd be pretty reluctant to part with any cash 16 months in advance of the event...

Cheers Scoob, presume thats confirmed from connections yeah? Interesting because as far as I know Tom George has that race earmarked for Black Op.

Thats what i was told by paul. Wouldn't be set in stone as it's little early to do that.

Still better to have a bet on Santini now and then roll it on really but there's not much in it.

1pt on @ 4/1 today...

Wins the RSA, dependant on style you'll surely be able to get 6/1 plus and that's being overly cautious.
Don Poli won the RSA in superb style and was 7/1 after.
Presenting Percy won in the same banner against a stronger field and also opened at 7/1 after the race.
Both of those horses also had a festival win to their name with the RSA making them dual festival winners something Santini doesn't have but Santini has far more hype around him.

5pts on @ 6/1 March 13th 14:20

34/1 on the double.

I loved the run yesterday and a huge admirer of the horse. Again for me what I love the most is he goes through his races almost a little subdued, just goes along his business without being eye catching but when it gets to the last few furlongs of a race he just steps up a gear and starts to get going. Noteworthy that he (apparently) looked unfit yesterday in the paddock which goes along with the quotes Henderson was giving out before the race.

Much tougher races to come, and let's not forget we still have the likes of Next Destination, Topofthegame, Black Op, Cracking Smart, Champagne Classic to come out but there's only one way Santini's price is going to go

What does everyone make of Kilbricken Storm? He was very disappointing and I wonder if they'll be thinking of hurdles after that, doesn't look like he enjoys fences at all to my eye.

Doesn't look a natural over fences to me either. The 33's with bet365 (for the stayers) is half tempting. Connections seemed more than happy with his chase debut though:

It was his first chase and he jumped absolutely brilliantly, and although he nearly got caught napping at the end it was a great run.

So i'd imagine they'll be keen to continue along the same path and put yesterdays race behind them.
Especially as he was reported lame in his left hind yesterday post race:

Following the race Harry Cobden reported that KILBRICKEN STORM (IRE), placed sixth, made a mistake at the cross fence and wasn’t travelling thereafter. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of KILBRICKEN STORM (IRE) during routine testing, found the gelding to be lame left hind.

So there are excuses behind his finishing position.

I couldn't really have him on my mind for the RSA , from what i've seen of him so far and because of the likely strength in depth there. But he's won at Cheltenham twice over 3 miles and proved his class at Punchestown.

Despite concerns on his jumping I feel like he's ran more than respectable races if the 4 miler is the end point though as COD is keen on. He can get away with those concerns at least in that race. We have no evidence yet (only raced on soft or heavy) and I can't recall any quotes directly on it but I also think if it is good ground at the festival this year he may find things all a bit too quick for him at 3 miles

The Kilbricken Storm debate doesn't hinge on what would suit the horse best, it's what Tizzard will do.

His last 3 runners in that race yesterday were Native River (2nd in 4 miler), Thistlecrack (1st in King George) and Elegant Escape (3rd in RSA) .....so not really a pattern there!

What price would you take for 2020 Gold Cup?

Just found a 50/1 voucher deep in my open bets Santini 2019 RSA/2020 Gold Cup.
This would have been a request a bet special so probably removed now...

Edit - and a 40/1 voucher for 2020 Gold Cup

well pleased with Discorama. Handicap assured now:)

Today is shaping up very nicely from an Ante Post point of view. Delta Work does the business and BBB wants another few miles!

Delta Work at 14/1
Santini at 4/1

The amount of hype pre-season has skewed this massively has it not?
On both at decent prices of course but I think Delta Work is the play there at those prices if you're starting a-fresh?

100%, deeper race today too and over an inadequate trip. Stayed it out lovely to the line.

Plus some record of the 3m punchestown novice hurdle going into the rsa. Next destination, champagne classic (could be JLT imo) and cracking smart should be exciting too.

Loved the way DW jumped today. Even when he was in close he was so nimble at getting up and over.
