National Hunt Challenge Cup Amateur Riders' Novices' Chase

and did he say that?

It sounds like their plan is 2m3f - 2m5f for the time being. With a view to giving him more experience jumping that seems sensible. I thought the conversation between Lydian and Ruby (7 mins onwards - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nN3S1PDMlvI) was fairly telling. This is what was said re Faugheen & 4 miler:

Ruby 'just wouldn't be going back down in trip with him' (whilst watching Faugheen's debut), 'i think when he goes, this was 2 1/2, I wouldn't be surprised...he'll stick at two and a half for the time being, Christmas and Limerick probably two and a half soft ground but I wouldn't be surprised to see him going a bit further when he gets into hotter and better races and the tempo is up'
Lydia 'can you see him turning up at the festival for any chase'
Naill Hannity 'Patrick Mullins 4 miler National Hunt Chase'
Ruby 'could be a possibility you know and why not. He's a genuine grade 1 horse, and the 4 miler I think could have....yeh look if he was to run there he was 3rd in last years stayers and I think his biggest danger will be the second in last years stayers, Sam Spinner'

Carefully Selected shortened again today. Into 10/1 fav with PP.

Great news! If he does come here will go off 3s

Patrick riding Faugheen at Limerick on 26th

over 2m 3f

Yep, huge pointer.

Think Patrick often rides for Willie at Limerick on boxing day.
Probably more likely now he has got only Townend and no Ruby.

It's been mentioned before but if this is the race for Faugheen it's the Ten up chase in February that'll show their intentions.
He won't have many other races (1 i think) to qualify in.
Unless they put him in a handicap or send him over to the UK. Then you'll definitely know.

Obviously if he beats Samcro I doubt they'll run him here.

Be 12 anyway in March so forget the old fella.

He rode rathvinden too I think.

Townend rode Rathvinden in the 3m novice at Leopardstown then Patrick took the ride in the Flogas before he won the NHC. Im not reading too much into it anyway will take much more notice of jockey bookings on there next run prior to the festival. How he & CS run later in the week will probably determine which route Willie will map out.

It’s far from a huge pointer!

I wondered if it was maybe jockey related possibly as well.

I know willie would have plenty at his pisposal to call upon but I see DM is riding Echoes in the juvenile, PM and PT possibly not make the 10 5 weight?

Forgot to clarify, which would be the reason PM is at limerick?

Completely agree if they are aiming Faugheen @ NH chase the obvious race would be the 3ml G1 at Leopardstown on Sunday to try and get the important qualification of finishing in the first 4 in 2ml 7 1/2f + chase

Ruby said 3 weeks ago they would stick to 2m3f for now, before stepping Faugheen up. This was in a conversation specifically about the NHC. With a view to this he is on track based on what was said and I don't think they'd be in a hurry to step him up in a more competitive race over xmas when they can find easier races to qualify in during Jan/Feb.

The issue is there aren't many races.
And there will be a few in the same position quite possibly.
This race is going to be impacted for sure this year.

There don't need to be many, there needs to be one. :)
