Many thanks to BigChaang for captaining the April wager, we move onto May.

A few strong cases put forward last month that could be included this time plus we have Punchestown Festival which should be very informative. I’ll certainly be keeping an eye on Saxon Warrior analysis of Punchestown and it could inform a selection or two.

So, let the discussion commence and as always i’d appreciate a volunteer Captain to make the final selections.

I have a funny feeling Constitution Hill will get some luck and regain the Champion Hurdle again next year. Currently 5/1.

And next year, he'll only be 9. No forlorn hope at all.

I was gonna leave him alone this time around but Sunday night i had a little dabble @ 13/2 boosted with Ladbrokes and added a couple of free bets as well, would feel worse if he won and i wasn't on than if I'm on and he's beaten !

I dont know myself

Thought he was beat when coming down at Aintree

Just doesn't travel like a 180 rated monster anymore

Hope they can get him back to his best as he's the best hurdler I have seen

He was on his way to becoming the frankel of the jumps the way he was routing every horse he faced

I'm with you on this. Since his Champion Hurdle win, he's fell twice, been injured and had colic. I couldn't have him as an ante post bet at current prices.

…I’m on holiday and a bit out of things but notice Jasmin de Vaux won at Punchestown despite meeting some problems in-running. He’s been nominated a few time in previous months & is still available at 14-1 for Stayers.

I think Ballyburn for the stayers needs to be considered widely available at 8's and I seen something mention Willie suggested he could revert to hurdles after Tuesday run.

Not sure what others think, but I've gone completely off the horse this season. Perhaps hurdles will help him, as he certainly isn't a chaser.

It wasn't long ago that a racing podcaster compared his chase debut with Sprinter Sacre. He couldn't have been more wrong:glee:

Bromley also said after his Cheltenham win that he'd have at least one more season over Hurdles which obviously helps as the Stayers would appear to be the only race he could target at the Festival?

Going back over Hurdles may well see a return to form but it's not guaranteed. He does look as though he's not that much in love with the game anymore and I'm not sure he truly gets 3m ?

I thought he done well to finish as close as he did with how crap he is over a fence. Back over hurdles he won't hopefully be giving too many lengths away.

Problem is back over hurdles, as Lobos points out, he isn't really a 3 miler, yet he lacks the pace for 2 miles, is also too highly rated to be plying his trade in high end handicaps so he really is stuck, they could mix it between chasing & hurdling with him, but I dunno...he'll always bee too short to take a punt on given how many cons there are to backing him, shame as he is a very good horse, maybe he'll do a BIg Bucks but I wouldn't bet on it at 8/1 with someone elses money.

8/1 is a horrible price. He was available at 14s straight after his defeat the other day and I don't think many will have rushed to take that either. Agreed that he's easy to swerve

As a previous festival winner, Ballyburn deserves respect although he's becoming disappointing. He's 25/1 top price for the Ryanair for any that think he won't stay, but Willy will probably be strongly represented in what looks a likely hot race judging by the betting.
If he matures mentally over the summer and starts to settle and learns to jump he may start to flourish over the longer trips as his breeding suggests he should. But 8/1 for the Stayers is a joke surely. However 100/1 for the Gold Cup has to be taken for a small free bet or two doesn't it?
Well he owes me nowt and I'd kick myself if I didn't and he put it all together, so I have.

It's a funny one because if you told me he beat Stellar Story 11 lengths over 3m I'd be thinking he is a horse I need to get onside.

The Turners is over 2m5 and he wasn't stopping when he won that or when he won at Christmas over the same distance, so it's only an additional 3f for the stayers. He's essentially had his target named with Willie saying he likely goes back over hurdles, however I don't think his price will contract much between now and next seasons stable tours so I would probably wait for hurdles to be reconfirmed and back before debut next season.

Having said that, I could very much see myself backing him over the summer in some way. Appreciate 8/1 is short - especially as I waivered on 14/1 - but as Envoi says, he's always going to be too short: I've missed out on plenty of horses because I've thought the price will stay or lengthen and it never does.

I'll nominate Galopin des Champs ... Gold cup . - 6-1 . Generally . .... Captain Reliable .. always runs his race ..
Getting on a bit now i suppose , i.m.o. ,, but surely got to be in the shake up at the end of next year's G.C. ??.
