May ‘25 Yankee

Any other thoughts on this months yankee? The end of the month is approaching.

Doctor Du Mesnil would be my one at a price. I got caught out thinking KDB would go Turners last year so I'm going to stick my neck on the line and say the Doctor will go for the Supreme (if good enough). Although not 100% accurate, I'm sure it was a trend that Willie tends to send the P2P horses to the Turners and the bumper horses (stores) to the Supreme with the Frenchies.

My thoughts in order are :

1. Irancy - Arkle
2. State Man - Champions Hurdle
3. Fact To File - Ryanair
4. Galopin Des Champs - Gold Cup

A couple at longer odds to boost the price :

1. Doctor Du Mesnil - Turners Hurdle
2. Honesty Policy - BANC
3. Kalif Du Berlais - QMCC

Good luck.......

As a quick follow up I would listen to JackieMoon33 over me with respect to Doctor Du Mesnil. He is much more in touch.

….its a difficult one, widely available @ 33-1 Sup and a best price 25-1 Turn. If @Faugheen_Machine goes with him then it could be a split stakes on both races (with cash-out). I think we advised similar last year when @Spectre selected Kopek for a monthly Yankee.

Good that @Saxon Warrior is also on the DDM case;

‘I mentioned Bud Fox was the second most impressive Bumper gelding this season just finished, and I’m adding in here, who I think is the most impressive one -
Doctor Du Mesnil

It was this time last year that I wrote quite a lot on FJ that I though the best Bumper horse of the season was Kopek Des Bordes.

…and having made the case so early for him, I proceeded to take the big prices for the Turners and Supreme available on him, and laid off the Turners bets when I had the ability to lay-off on them.

I have similar feeling about Doctor Du Mesnil, he’s impressed me on his debut, and been given a 129 RPR for his first lifetime start, in a Bumper.

Kopek Des Bordes lifetime debut Bumper win that got me hooked was a 124 RPR.

Jockey quotes post race, included
“You can ride him anyway you want”

“He picked up in two strides, I had them covered”

“It’s a long way up the straight, and I knew I had them covered, whenever I wanted”

His win was over 2M3F, but given his market prices for the Supreme and Turners, then I’d suggest Cashout bets on both, if you have any interest in this horse.

Be good if someone could get him priced up more fully for the Supreme, to see if there’s some more options to consider.

My preference would be Turners, but he could be good enough over 2M too, just like Kopek is.’

…..would you be up to Captaining next month’s effort, maybe @Istabraq the month after? 🙏
I would be happy to, provided no one else was up for it.

Happy to sit out for other members to get involved.

Whatever Faugheen pick's , I'll be on it .. (y). best of Luck.

Bud Fox was my #1 4yo P2P horse to follow and Doctor Du Mesnil my # 1 bumper horse to follow, so I'd endorse both massively. However, there is nothing in their respective races to give a clear indication of which race they would most likely go for. I've made an educated guess at the Supreme for The Doctor, purely based on the history of Willie sending P2P horses to the Turners. The only thing for sure is that you can rule out the AB for both!

I know Irancy has been mentioned and indeed I have backed him for The Arkle but I have been catching up on Raceform today. After his latest win (Fairyhouse I think) there is a comment from connections that he was not suited by Cheltenham (in TheSupreme) because of preliminaries and more worryingly the track! So justwzntedto put that bit in the mix.

You've managed to miss out the Champion Hurdle winner 😁

It's hard to ignore Doctor Du Mesnil given he seems very popular. I'll put him up in one of the novices and he'll no doubt line up as an odds on favourite in the other!

….FJs can always split stakes and put him in both with cash-out, we suggested similar with Kopek last year (although he was put up for Supreme).

Sounds like you’re including a nice one for CH (y)

I would very much agree about DDM going for the Supreme over the Turners despite his bumper win being over 2m3f.

I too was caught out with KDB going for the Supreme over the Turners, albeit had both races covered with singles, but the multiples took a big hit.

That p2p form is very much a key factor for me. Appreciate It was the last p2p horse to go and win the Supreme for the Willie having come from that background, but at the same time he was avoiding Bob Olinger that year.

I think I am right in saying that Willie has only won the Turners once with a store, and that was his first ever winner of the race, Fiveforthree, since then it's been dominated by p2p horses for him with the odd French import thrown in.

The other one I liked of Willies for the Supreme from the bumpers we had was Kaiser Ball, but you've got Peter Crouch riding him, so can't imagine he'll be too popular.

With the recent comments from Barry Connell appearing to change his tune and hinting that the champion hurdle is a possibility for William Munny, it feels like an easy opportunity to throw Kopek De Bordes in at 7/1 for the arkle.

What's he said about William Munny? One of my early Arkle bets down the shitter? :D

Barry Connell (via Racing TV) - "There might be a vacancy in the Champion Hurdle. We'll keep all our options open, we'll be training him away and he'll either go to Punchestown for the Morgiana or a Beginners Chase"

Stolen this from @RoadToCheltenham on Twitter.

Good summary! Kopek Des Bordes and Marine Nationale are the standouts to me. I couldn't (shouldn't) touch a novice hurdler with a bargepole this far out.

I like to follow the 5 year old hurdlers with grade 1 form in the Arkle as 5 of the last 8 winners ticked the box. I just think they're open to more improvement than say a William Munny or Irancy (both 7, turning 8). Mullins has pretty much all of them this year as far as I can tell and Kopek has been the stable number 1 in the big 3 races.

Marine Nationale looks rock solid. I don't think the Arkle contenders are you to much, Majborough aside, so it's essentially a repeat of this year's champion chase. Sir Gino seems like a risky fav. Will be race again, will he ever make a festival etc.

Look forward to the picks!
