MARTIN PIPE Conditionals Handicap Hurdle

I think positive for langer dan fans

Dan Skelton on Langer Dan:

“How did we run into Galopin Des Champs in a handicap? It was remarkable really... He’s going to run at Taunton on February 22. Then he will be strongly considered for the Imperial Cup and then the Martin Pipe again.”

Be great when Willie beats him with another type with loads in hand

Going to have to run badly at Taunton or else he may get punished.
The three runs in 20+ days after a year off isn't healthy either.
Likely one or the other I think.

Yeah, the rest of the quote:

“We may not go to the Imperial Cup. I haven’t spoken to to Colm (owner) to see if we’ll definitely give him an entry in the Coral Cup, but he is basically aiming for the Martin Pipe.”

Thanks for posting

Good to hear, will be tough to beat unless there's another future gold cup winner in the field

2 races from 22nd to the Friday of the festival? I'm sorry I can't have a horse with that prep.

Last year he had three runs in 30 days, and his last run before the festival was a week before. I remember it because I was really impressed by his win in the Imperial Cup at Sandown the Saturday before the Martin Pipe, and when I heard he was running the next Friday I immediately dismissed it because of the short turnaround despite everyone backing him. He's an uncoventional horse, and he's proved this type of prep doesn't seem to worry him. I've just talked myself into backing him now...

It's the year off prior that is the concern.

It’s a tad unconventional, but this is no Mickey Mouse outfit, and I would trust them myself if I wanted to back him for Cheltenham.

This was the sort of plan I mentioned a couple of pages back and then decided they'd left it too late... Not sure whether to change my mind now. :biggrin-new:

Was it by choice that they've had Langer Dan off the racecourse for 11 months?

Without any injury, it seems very odd that they'd be targeting a race worth ?44k to the winner when, if he's well in, he could have ran in any number of handicaps between 2m and 2m5 and won plenty more and then taken in graded races.

And lest we forget, he was considered here a few months back as a lively outsider for the Stayers before he had a setback and connections confirmed a spring campaign. Yes, believe it was a minor injury.

Every chance that was a smokescreen to keep him off the course, and protect that mark...

Ashtree Meadow running today at Thurles in 2m4F.
Taking a similar prep race to Blow By Blow and Champagne Classic.
Fairly sure Elliott named dropped the Pipe after his last run in Navan.

He certainly did - Pipe definitely mentioned.

Be interesting to see what mark he gets in Ireland after today!

Sorry, am I missing something with the routes mate? Neither ran in this race or the race Ash Tree Meadow ran in last time either.

Doens't take away from him but just wondering what I'm missing.

Sorry, phrased it wrong.
Meant to mean, how they both ran at Thurles over 2m4f/4.5F in February on their final prep run before going to win the pipe.
Sorry if people took this up wrong, I just meant to mean they are taking a similar prep race for the pipe. (Same course, similar distance, similar time of year)
