Are people (and use that in a general sense rather than on here) making too much of a meal of Salsaretta being a second season novice? It'll obviously help her and be an advantage to a degree this season but for me she's way behind what Let's Dance achieved in their novice seasons. If you compare:
Let's Dance
1st Run : Ran in the top juvenile race at Christmas against the boys - finished second behind Ivanovich Gorbatov
2nd Run : Again ran in the strongest juvenile race possible at Leopardstown in February - second behind Footpad (beating IG)
3rd Run : 4th in the Triumph behind Footpad, Apple's Jade and IG
4th Run : 2nd behind Apple's Jade at the Punchestown Festival in the Champion Juvenile
5th Run : Won a Madien hurdle in Sligo in May
Salsaretta
1st Run : Pitched into the Mares Novice at the Festival after several setbacks. Fell when well beaten (6th at the time)
2nd Run : 5th in the Mares Novice Hurdle at the Punchestown Festival
3rd Run : Won a Madien hurdle in Sligo in May
It's worlds apart really isn't it? LD ran in pretty much the 4 most competitive races she could have done so, each time outside her own sex.
Add in the fact that the division is getting stronger year on year - i'll be wanting to see a big step forward from her starting on Wednesday before looking at her for this race. Now she's available at 25/1 for this so i'm not exactly shooting down a string favourite here or anything like that but I do think the second season novice and Let's Dance comparisons are lacking for me.
Now you could argue the odds she went off at (18/1 at Cheltenham and 20/1 at Punchestown) show she was never fancied those days and if you still believe the vibes about her during the first half of the season last year - she can do what LD did. Also that if she too was a 4year old in her novice season, she may well have tried her luck in the juvenile division...but I have my doubts.
...cue her bolting up at Limerick now :highly_amused:
