Mares Novice Hurdle 2019

Part of 'the game' for ante post punters is finding the right one...and Chate Neige is probably that... but take the punting out of it and....

Willie Mullins putting his best novice mare in a race in Feb, first time out, for it to win at near even money on the Thursday of the Cheltenham festival, with no real competition, and no real reason to see the pattern that's already forming relenting any time soon...

hardly the stuff that gets the heart pumping is it...

if they're the genuine CH contenders the next season, they can run in a Supreme getting 7 lbs.

I get it, I do, it's just not satisfying...

That's what will happen imo.
Easy game

Have you ever thought it's because the likes of laurina might have got beat in a supreme, and she may not be a true CH contender.

Same for chat neige, I couldn't care less what she does after this. I'm not going to go screaming she's a CH horse. The next superstar. But it's easy pickings here for a horse of her ability. And the ammount they paid maccaire.

I'd say it's more to do with spreading your horses as best as possible to get festival wins. Laurina had a pen kick here, she might've won a Supreme, who knows? I know what was easier.

No worries about Chante Neige not running last season? Was there a setback or just keeping her for this year as they had Laurina?

If Chante Neige cruises up and wins easily on her debut I can guarantee that my heart will be pumping at a rate of knots due to her being my biggest winner

Not sure Jack, my point was just about the race in general I guess - but was a fairly pointless point to be making!

.

Yeah, then so what? If she did run, it'd make the Supreme form potentailly strong, more interesting etc etc...

The less races, the better the standard of racing.

Yes we'll all make some 'easy money' on Chante Neige if she wins, my point was, if you take that out of it ... it's a bit boring.

And don't come at me with "it's all about making money", cos it's not. There is the asian handicap in football, or slots like good 'ol Tim does if that's all you care about.

Racing is Racing.

Get rid of this crap race.
Screw Mullins

Screw you all :highly_amused:

Taking the punting out of it I’d rather see a top class novice mare bolt up at Cheltenham than not come over

None of Mullins three hyped mares of recent memory came over for a novice race

Edit: not sure VVM was eligible

I don't think that took away from Annie Power as a horse?

Did the Mares race get you giddy when she would have won that?

Was brilliant to see her in the Stayers taking on geldings, even though she was in the wrong race, and the Champion Hurdle was superb.

How Willie Mullins splits/campaigns his horses is very, very short term thinking.

Absolutely didn’t take anything away

But from a personal point do I want to see the best horses in the flesh? Yes

Are we having the same conversation about Laurina if the Cheltenham race didn’t happen? I don’t think so

No but the point is surely, if she didn't bolt up in the Mares Novice event, and had a proper campaign as a Supreme horse, and won the same races Douvan or Min or whatever did.... would we be more excited than we are?

Absolutely!!! and if she'd not have won them, then she won't win a bloomin' Champion Hurdle...... so my poi8nt is, WITHOUT this uncompetitive racecourse gallop on the Thursday, would it take away from the sport?

I think not.

One of the reasons Annie Power and those other good Mares didn't run at the festival may have been because they have the softer options of Mares races.

I can't have my cake and eat it, and I understand we need good mares races... but it's not exciting right now.

20 years from now, may well have been worth it!

You’d have to abolish the mares program as a whole

I’m somewhat glad of the hype it’s caused, while I won’t be backing her it has to be the most popular debate in NH Racing and debate can only peak interest, so I’d say that may be the most significant thing the race has brought in its infancy

What I would say is that quavega used to win this every year and now all of a sudden we have had Annie power apples jade vvm bdd and now Laurina as well as delta work going chasing were as before it didn't seem there was many mares to get excited about so I think it's already starting to pay dividends with more mares making appearances and everyone starting to get excited about the race and even them challenging grade 1s were as before it was a penalty kick every year for quavega and nothing happened outside of the mares race were as we've had Annie win a champion hurdle and try for the world hurdle at the time and now Laurina try for the champion hurdle it'll get to the stage were there'll be so many mares it'll be competing against real quality in the mares hurdle or try your chance in a championship race with the allowance and we will see more of it

Is there a proper debate?

Nobody can possibly think she's got Champion Hurdle form in the book.

So we either "believe the hype" or as Alex Turner said, "don't believe the hype".

I don't think it'd much different than if she'd won the Supreme. I know I'd be just as excited, if she hadn't done a Summerville Boy.

Whether you think the debate is valid or not it’s being had on here, on other forums, on twitter etc.

It’s another level of unknown that wouldn’t have been here without the race

If Laurina won the Supreme, we'd be having a more meaningful debate, as there would be more form to go on.

If Laurina didn't win the Supreme, we'd not be having the debate (but ultimately saving time as she'd have no chance) and there would be some other horse being hyped up. Do you remember Samcro?

Before this "world class" debate on Laurina, Samcro was the debate.

One certainty is, when people wake up, they'll agree the Laurina/CH debate is better than our waffling :highly_amused:
