Handicap Weights

Really think the Close Bros h'cap need a re-think.
39 horses within 6lb of each other at the top of the 'cap, more a conditions race than a 'cap

Excuse my ignorance here, but why is it so bad if it is a 'tight' handicap? For the field to be seperated by just 6lb surely makes it more competitive, no?

It makes it so compressed CorD you can't look at the race as a handicap.
Just a personal view, I think the only reason they call the race a 'cap is so it isn't considered a duplicate of the JLT...

But what can they do? If a horse has a certain rating it is what it is, surely?

I like the tight handicaps, makes me work harder in trying to find the winner!

Raise the max rating to 150, that would convince a few of the JLT outsiders to come here which would add more class (assuming the 'capper has done his job well) and give a wider 'cap range top to bottom...

And the JLT might fall apart?

I do, kind of, get where you are coming from, I don't however see a solution, as it will have knock-on effects across other races IMO.

Moon Racer 2lbs better of than BBB and under 11st for either the County or the Coral cup

Surely Moon Racer has regressed since his meeting with BBB. It might just be me but I can't see how he can win at the festival.

The moral Supreme winner running off a light weight?

All-in :p

Moon Racer being talked about for imperial cup county double doesn't strike me as the kind of horse who could run twice in 6 months not to mind 6 days.

Moon Racer has done more than BBB over hurdles in beating Ballyandy and as I’ve said before I thought his betfair hurdle race was the perfect run for a mark which he’s got

Also doesn’t appear on racingposts list for the imperial cup so assume he’s not entered?

Anyone any idea where Traffic Fluide goes? Got a decent enough weight in both The Ultima and Brown Advisory Plate. Personally think he's better over shorter but he's got a bigger price in The Ultima. I know he's entered in The Ryanair too but it feels like he's been a bit out of his depth this season and been plotted for a handicap

Thought it best to post this here ,. In the Racing Post Today (website ) , 2 things , - first the R.P. experts call the cut off rating for the H.caps , and second , (more important ! ) several Trainers give their Best H.cap horses and races > !. hope this helps.

I wouldn't back Traffic Fluide with counterfeit. There you go luis, I've just guaranteed he bolts up :)

Just in my eyes He only finished 7l behind the CC winner last year and actually went off fave at Aintree in April. Just in the way he's only 8 and has been running in top quality fields I think he's interesting at a big price.

Although it seems as if I'm totally out on my own with this one, everyone seems to disagree with me.

Actually was one I also was looking closely at - but that should not give you confidence as compared to most on here, I have never left racing primary school

Any idea/preference to where he goes Montelado?

I know he is longer in the Brown Advisory but nothing points to why he would be effective over further. I am not one that can decipher pedigree but would feel that 2m 5 is the limit of his distance. As you said, I can't see why his form has dipped other than in 4 runs he has dropped 11 pounds - seems to young to be over the top.
