Close Bros Handicap Chase

Happy to see you side with LDS. It is a horse I managed to get priced up by SkyBet after speaking to G&P :)

Him & White Moon for me so far.

Another great write up VF.

Moon Over Germany looks like he's being primed for a big run in a handicap and this race could well be it. Davy being the likely pilot is another positive, as is the trainer.

He is entered in a handicap chase over 2m 1f at the DRF so it'll be interesting if they declare him for that.

I'm already on at 25/1.

Yes you're both right, he is in on Saturday. RP not showing any entries on his form page which is annoying. I'm taking the 25s.

From Viking Flagships (excellent) post:
White Moon – Best performance this season came over C&D when falling at the last. Bit disappointing last twice but they were both over 3 miles and he retains lots of potential.

I like White Moon, I do, but (and this is a big but) are the Tizzard's the kind of trainers to be able to plot a horse to a race like this?

My point being, they've campaigned him openly, and he's come up short at graded level so far... I think he's better than he's shown, but ultiamtely, the handicapper must have him pretty well chalked up at the moment.

Do you believe that they can eek out improvement to win this race? (Granted he might not NEED to if he showed his true ability BUT we have no proof that ability is there yet?)

Another way of saying it, is that I can't help feeling this race will go to a horse that has had the race as a plan from a long way back, and White Moon, is absolutely no where near a horse that has had this race in mind from a long way back...

I agree regarding Tizzard, but NRNB is a no brainer for me, having purposely been put over a trip that stretches his stamina. Obviously this is Tizzard so he could end up anywhere, but his best run before falling was over 2m 4f on chase debut, and I think if his jumping holds up he can go close over the trip again at the festival.

That best run was the one he was outpaced then stayed on really well wasn't it? Remember that well without even checking back.

I didn't mean he might not turn up, I meant I think this race will go to a horse that has had the race as a plan, not an after thought?

Cheers for the positive feedback fellas.

Kev, on White Moon I get what you’re saying but perhaps it’s just a case of Colin being tarred with the brush of not being very ‘savvy’ with these things. What I mean is, If WM was trained by someone else you might actually be saying how interesting it is that the horse has had 2 runs over an inadequate trip, to manufacture a decent mark.

Tbh I’m just playing devil’s advocate because I don’t think for 1 minute that he has been laid out for the race, I’m just making the point that there can be a fine line between a horse looking like it’s been campaigned by a genius or by a fool.

However he got to this point, I do think that the horse’s mark could prove to be ok. Colin has proved time and again he can land the big handicaps - regardless of whether this was a specific plan he can certainly train them for the big days and I think this horse is in the reckoning if he puts it all together. That last bit is pertinent though, it’s easy to have reservations about him putting it all together as this season has looked a little in and out.

At the prices I’d probably have Jenkins nudging ahead of him on my shortlist.

Great write up yet again VF

In fact my only bet so far is the same as yours. I also have Solumn Grundy on my list but he may need to raise a few lbs to get in if 140 is the cutaway. I will also back Jenkins should he rock up in this but I would like to see him drop a couple more.

With regards to Glen Forsa would ye reckon at this stage that the CB is the target, he needs a run so would the kingmaker be his option or a lesser novice chase at Fakenham? Have seen the JLT mentioned as possible festival race now

Great write-up VF. And a mention for my Gun Digger :)

I’m on glen forsa for the CB think have my fingers crossed he comes here

One to keep an eye on this week is Clondaw Castle for Tom George. He has the 3 runs already but is only on 134 so needs to go and win again. Impressively dispatched of Burbank last time and, whilst he's done all his running under rules at 2m, he's a PTP winner who is likely to appreciate further. Interestingly enough he's closely matched with Springtown Lake from his PTP who I would give a chance to in this as mentioned earlier.

Style De Garde is also entered up back over fences this week. Loads of talent but you couldn't have him over further than 2 miles until he learns how to settle.

Im quite interested in seeing where Minds Eye might turn up??

He'd be to high for this with a ceiling of 145 (currently 144)

Anyone with views as to where you think he may go. If graded option only I'll leave him.
