Close Bros Handicap Chase

My original first choice for this was Pacific De Baune but he’s reverted back to hurdles (I still like him for a handicap regardless). My second early season pick was Kildisart trained by Ben Pauling and I’m hoping he’ll come here. He had a reasonable hurdle campaign and reached a mark of 142 which is just above his chase mark of 141. He’s always been thought of as a chaser so I’d like to think that 141 may underestimate his potential. 141 would pretty much guarantee him a run but he is entered at Cheltenham on Saturday so hopefully they don’t blow it then. I actually backed the horse NRNB for all the hurdle handicaps at the last festival but he missed the cuts.

....with an eye on its run tomorrow, I backed Kildisart myself earlier this week, but for JLT @ 33-1 NRNB.

I’d be keen on Spritofthegames for this. Runs tomorrow and needs to drop 1lb.

I was just doing tomorrows card and looking to back this.
He's have to run very poorly to get that pound off he needs if looking to sneak in the Close Bros, with a listed chase win to his name I'd be surprised if the 'capper was so kind but I could be wrong.
How does he approach tomorrow is a guess up, he could get beat 15l and stay on 146, to be guaranteed to get that pound off he'd have to be well short of work/fitness, well worth a sneak round to the pre parade ring I think....

If he doesn’t win tomorrow then he won’t win a JLT so I’d assume they’ll run in the handicap at the festival instead.

In a tricky looking race tomorrow, with marks and effort being questioned.
Kildisart trying his best tomorrow seems likely ? if they do indeed prefer graded races, which they tend to normally.
after the Glen forsa bet went south I think I'll chance KIldisart tomorrow as already backed for JLT.
saver on enola gay, good song that.

If he dosent win, when he's trying to. Id personally assume he wouldn't be infront of his mark. Therefore shouldn't be winning

Would that be unfair?

I'm expecting he'll be trying, and is hopefully ahead of this mark
I've decided to take the view they're all trying tomorrow as it's hard enough without doubting.
So I think I get what scooby's saying, although it's not the best sentence ever.

Not at all but there could be something better handicapped though.

....Jacob saying in his Sporting Life column that this race is the aim for Kildisart.

Very conflicting...

“A lovely horse who I’ve ridden on his last eight starts and he won his third race for me last time when just getting the better of Activial at Ascot. He showed a good attitude that day and, while it’ll be a tough task giving weight to plenty of these, he’s a talented horse and I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do on his handicap debut over fences. We're giving him a taste of Cheltenham with a view to running in the Close Brothers Handicap Chase at the Festival.”

Lough Derg Spirit wins today, or at least he needs to, to get in here. Backed him for this race and for the race today @ Ludlow..

In contrast, White Moon will hopefully lose again today, and drop a couple more lb's, with a view to dropping back down in trip (the correct trip for the horse) and coming here.

A pretty perfect day all round for my handicap hopes. LDS hacks up and will very likely get in the Close Bros. now, and White Moon got beat over a trip too long and will likely be dropped a couple more before taking his chance in this....I hope!

LDS also jumped left going right handed so Cheltenham will suit a lot more too.

Lough Derg Spirit - inclined to forgive last run in a hot race. but went off favourite.
Won well today and would need to get raised (and they might not as the opposition pretty much all fell down)
But looks henderson's type for this race
backed it each way NRNB 20's sky.

Welcome aboard ;) Friend spoke to G&P and they said this race the likely target, into 14's now NRNB.

nice one, missed your comment earlier today.
Hopefully 6lb penalty for that, job done.

I wouldn't be confident he'll get the necessary rating rise with the race falling apart the way it did. It's a shame they didn't stand up as no doubt he'd have still won impressively and then he'd have warranted a nice bump. For me he's likely to need at least 4lb to get in, I wouldn't want to be chancing anything on less than 140 (without nrnb).

B365 have pushed White Moon out to 25s which is fairly generous, although I don't love his jumping. Some really good leaps interspersed with others that leave me a little bit on edge.
