Cheltenham weather forecast

I think the heavier rain is expected tonight, hopefully it being dry at the moment so drying a little the rain later will not have a massive effect, even though it will have have some effect.

Even better still the wind changes direct and it missies the course al together, wishful thinking...

Lovely morning and the temperature was about 13 degrees at noon. However, clouds gathering as I type. Rain won't be too long in coming.

At the moment no rain, good wind and the ground is soft but no way near heavy

Apparently Hendo walked course this morning and was pleasantly surprised. "Soft for sure, but a long way from being desperate".

He is bang on. It’s windy here as well which drys the ground quickly

Brilliant update Charlie. Thanks:encouragement:

What was also noticeable was how little water there was in the stream around the course

That might sound like an odd comment but when the going is heavy it is way fuller than that

The streams are part of the natural irrigation system.
I don't know whether less water in them means there hasn't been as much rain as suggested or whether it takes a while to filter through the ground and into the streams...

It's a good sign. It just means there has been less rain than expected. Obviously a lot of rain is forecast though

Exactly right. Depends how reactive the catchment is. May take time for river levels to rise or may be very quick.

The intuitive answer would be that as it drains very well the increase in the stream levels would be pretty quick, but that could be a load of shite :)

Depends what’s happening upstream. Significant rainfall upstream can cause river levels to rise without any rainfall in the rivers location.

This sounds like a GCSE geography class! How is an ox bow lake formed?
