Cheltenham Bumper 2019

Would much prefer it that way round though.

One of the most over-used and mis-leading bits of punditry I feel is "they must have fancied it last time as it was well backed" (or similar)

1. We will never KNOW who "they" is.
2. "They" might be wrong!

It's not a negative, but it's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

On a slightly similar note, I re-read this article with Barry Hills (https://www.racingpost.com/news/mor...my-golden-rules-for-successful-punting/129993) about his 'golden tips' for punting. The main one was "only back your own horses" - WEll what bloomin' use is that to 99% of the population! I also disagree, I'm sure Henderson thought L'ami Serge was a great horse until the ones popped over from across the water. Imagine him not taking into account any rivals. Nonsense.

I read that Barry hill's article too Kev, What a load of tosh , !.

Just watching the latest RP Upping The Ante where David Jennings is adamant that Envoi Allen will not go to Cheltenham, and Malone Road is injured. Both head the market at 6/1 with 16/1 next best price. Anyone have any strongish opinions at this stage on whats best of the rest?

It had taken me a while to catch up on lots of replays but Master Debonair from the Tizzard yard is now on my shortlist. The comments pre and post race suggest he’ll be coming here and he’s very well bred.

He’s also been to Cheltenham twice so has course form as a plus. Even though he lost his seasonal reappearance he was only just touched off by a decent bumper horse that has collateral form to the hot Ascot bumper from last season.

I’d rate him a reasonable each way shout at the moment.

Look out for Thatsy over Christmas - I believe it works up with Envoi Allen at home.

Although not quite as impressive as some of the early contenders from Ireland, Tom Lacey had an impressive winner of the bumper at Ascot on Saturday called Hazzaar. He travelled into the race nicely but was a little green and took a while to put the race to bed. Some things to note that may or may not prove useful:

1.) The horse was backed into favouritism despite never seeing the track before.

2.) Noel Fehily took the reins.

3.) I’ve since read quotes that Hazzaar is as good as they’ve had in the yard (Up there with Sebastopol).

4.) Although Sebastopol blotted his copy book on his debut over hurdles, most would agree his bumper win at Ayr was impressive.

5.) They are considering coming back to Ascot for the listed bumper.

They kept their word and he’s running tomorrow.

Looks competitive race though don't it ?
Just had an hour on it and left it for now.

Yeah it could be decent form although last years was a real good one.

Looks a good race tomorrow, the top two look very good and I like the Scudamore horse also, who might be my bet at the prices as he looked real good winning last time and didn't look like he'd had to race. And the form is not too bad.
Not a fashionable yard but if you didn't see it, check it out. Thor de cerisy.

No sign of Energumene or Asterion Forlonge over Christmas?

Archie

Do you know if harrie was qualified to run in this last year?

They've put Allaho in mighty short for the good one at leopardstown. Fury road is Gordon's best bumper horse. So Allaho would be some tool if he won this.

Hi lads can someone request a price for Allaho in Festival bumper.

Will hope they price up NRNB wrong somewhere then!

Were Malone Road / Envoi Allen involved in the schooling race?

All the good ones. But not Malone rd.
Couldn't believe when he opened up at 9/4 and Allaho 4/6.

Iv not a clue if Allaho is eligible if he somehow is that good. Archie may know as he's under the same conditions with harrie previously. Iv a feeling there's a loop hole for his French hurdle run. But I'm not certain.

I'm not in Harrie but I think that they thought he was eligible last season and then found out he wasn't. As far as I'm aware, you're barred from UK bumpers if you've run in a hurdle race. Not the same in Ireland.

Allaho is Shanning's half brother.

Fury Road first show was 5/1 with 365.

Yes, same as vision d'honneur.
They really shouldn't price up what they dont know, before others do
Or if they want to be first atleast employ competent traders

Not going to be large volumes they lose though so the mistakes get recitified pretty quickly!
