Cheltenham 2019 Ante-Post bets

Hey guys,

It's that time already, I know some of you guys have been contributing since this years festival and some very good thoughts/opinions already, of which has got me having a look at the early markets.

Just wondered if anyone knows the likely route for Next Destination this season, has anything been said about chasing? And how confident are we that chasing is the route he goes? Because I think he could be a dark horse for the Champion Hurdle.

Similarly campaigned to Faugheen, before he reverted back to 2m for the Champion Hurdle, I think the general consensus is that the Ballymore was a classier race than the Supreme, in which case support for Summerville Boy, as many have said on here, would mean ND shouldn't be written off, should he go down this route.

Generally looked a stayer, but his turn off foot over the shortest distance he raced over last season was phenomenal, albeit against fairly weak opposition, though Paloma Blue was in the line up that day, this was also his biggest winning distance of all the races hes contested last season. I can see him adopting the same tactics as Faugheen, going off in front and using that turn of foot at the bottom of the hill to put the race to bed. Willie may also run Melon, as the pace ND sets up would suit him too, so could be double handed against BD, what with the novice chase department looking hot this coming season too.

Edit: The argument for Topofthegame has got me running to back him too, very solid, and the thoughts of the trainer and the jockeys who have ridden him to date is very positive also.

Good to see you back COD

I’m a very big fan of Next Destination and maintain he should’ve run (and won) the Albert Bartlett last year - though I did think Cracking smart would overturn the form if they’d have clashed over 3m.

I’m on Next destination for any race and also the RSA as he seems the Mullins type to me.

I’d be absolutely staggered if he runs in the Champion Hurdle let alone wins it. He screams 3 miles to me.

Have to agree about the novice chasers this year being a top bunch. I think it’ll be a very interesting season for all three of the big Cheltenham novice chases. Even the NH Chase could have an above average field I’d say.

Lots to look forward to

Thanks MOM.

Yeah, I must admit, as per what seems the general consensus, I expect ND to go chasing, however, something is bringing me back to the Champion Hurdle, probably because his turn of foot reminds me so much of Faugheen up the hill. I do honestly think more positive tactics would see ND in better light over a shorter distance, whether that be hurdling or chasing.

I had noted his 3m Grade 1 win, but for me that was Grade 1 in name only, time will tell but I feel the 3m hurdling division of last season was a pretty average standard.

One thing I don't believe he is, is slow, he was 3 lengths off the ill fated Fayonagh in the champion bumper in 2017 and everyone was ready to back her until they could no longer before she unfortunately lost her life.

His pedigree does say to me he needs a trip, however.

So tough at this very early stage, but I've taken a small amount of the 33's for the Champion Hurdle at this stage, as I won't be backing him over any of the chase races at his current prices.

Might Bite very likely to take on the Betfair Chase this year on way to his main first target of The King George, I can only find 14/1 for him to win the £1mil bonus which is not terribly exciting was hoping for at least 20/1. They intend on running him more this year and intend to also get a prep into him after the KG and before another go at the Gold Cup (dependent on fitness).

I think if one of those was to escape him it would be the Betfair Chase.
Every chance of a Haydock bog which plays into the hands of a Bristol de Mai or Native River...

14/1 is not a nice price at all unfortunately.

If he was 6/4 for all three at SP you'd get 14.67/1

I did consider backing him for the triple crown as he'd want to be winning the KG for me to have a chance at winning the Gold Cup.. but that price is skinny enough.

If Might Bite doesn't win at Kempton on Boxing Day, I'd give less chance of reversing the placings with whoever did beat him (all ifs buts and maybes but that is how I feel at the moment)

Worth noting that a Might Bite King George/Gold Cup double can be backed at 23.5/1 (if bookies will allow the combination)

If they took the double and a few firms would, they would be within their rights under their Terms and Conditions to refuse payout on that double, however if the bet lost they wouldnt pay you back a refund. Unfortunately 14/1 makes little appeal, if anyone sees any bigger prices Id be grateful for a heads up, cheers.

Does anyone know of anywhere where you can get a list of horses in training sorted by trainer? For example, you can search all the horse Willie Mullins has in training?

Have a look on his website as i think David Pipe has a bit on horses in training.

Been chatting to a bloke whos in the syndicate which owns Getaway Trump With Paul Nicholls. He likes this horse and saved his novice rating for this season. Not saying he will win @the fest but might be worth a punt when seen out next.

Marty , if you search Skysports Horse / Trainer profiles , you can type in W P Mullins , if you look up future entries ,
It gives you all horses he's got entered for the next two months
or more ,

Hi All, good to back browsing the forum after a small break.

With only 201 days to go, thought I would give my early thoughts...

Annamix - Supreme. 20/1
Ricci said when he announced the injury he was the best they had and hoped he would be favourite this year.

Laurina - Arkle. 14/1
Mullins has already said she's a chaser and hoped there would be a mares novices chase.

Footpad - Ryanair. 8/1
Hopefully, the owners let Sceau Royal take on Altior and mop the Ryaniar up with this jumping machine.

Tiger Roll - Any race. 4-1
Festival form as good as any, probably try and retain the Cross Country.

Santini - Any race. 12-1
Very impressed with the Albert Bartlett run. Want to be on him wherever NH decides to run him.

Hollowgraphic - Any race. 14-1
Mullins number 1 bumper horse. Surely shorter for any festival race he runs.

Delta Work - Any race. 20-1
Last years Pertemps winner. Previous festival form always a plus.

Next Destination - RSA. 12-1
Outpaced in the Ballymore but then won at Punchestown. Hopefully will take to chasing.

Black Op - JLT. 10-1.
The best bar Samco and he will go CH route :highly_amused:

Will look back on this in March with horror I'm sure :highly_amused:

Welcome back Innoko - I hope that doesn't end up to be something you look back on in horror because I like all of them :)

I haven't made a significant financial outlay on Samcro yet, for the fairly obvious reason that we don't know where he's going. I have backed Samcro so far, in the any race market (in multiples) and with free bets... and a few pts in the RSA which is still my personal opinion on where he'll go however, as has been proven time and time again, it is nice to be paid when I'm wrong, so I've decided to place the following

Lucky 15 - 7279/1 with Coral

7/1 Samcro - Champion Hurdle
12/1 Santini - RSA
9/1 Penhill - Stayers Hurdle
6/1 Presenting Percy - Gold Cup

They're best price on all of these horses (oddschecker says Boyle are 8/1 but they're 6/1 on Samcro) and the rest are top price or joint top.

Thanks Kev, must be on the right track if you like them! :triumphant:

Samcro could be staying over hurdles this season with Eddie O’Leary admitting that it would be great for Gigginstown to finally have a genuine Champion Hurdle contender.

A decision will be made in the next couple of weeks with O'Leary, racing manager to owners Gigginstown House Stud, describing the chances of*the six-year-old staying hurdling*rather than going chasing as*'50-50'.*

The Ballymore Novices' Hurdle winner was successful in all seven of his starts prior to the Punchestown Champion Hurdle in April and that Grade 1 contest in open company was supposed to be a fact-finding mission to determine whether Samcro stayed hurdling or went chasing.

Samcro*crashed out at the second-last when in with every chance and Gordon Elliott and the O’Learys were left none the wiser.

Now it is decision time. Samcro is 5-1 second favourite behind Buveur D’Air for the 2019 Champion Hurdle with Paddy Power, but as big as 8-1 with BoyleSports. He is outright favourite for the JLT Novices’ Chase and the RSA.*

Paddock poser: Samcro spots the camera in the preliminaries before the Ballymore Novices' Hurdle

"We haven't decided what Samcro will do yet and at the moment I would say it is 50-50," said O’Leary when asked what the most exciting young horse in training would be doing this season.

He added: "He went back into training with Gordon a few weeks ago, but it is still very early days so nothing has been set in stone.

"The Champion Hurdle at Punchestown was supposed to tell us where we were going. If he'd won that he was staying over hurdles and, if he was beaten, we were going chasing. He fell before we knew what would have happened, so it didn’t decide anything."

Gigginstown, who have never owned a Champion Hurdle winner, came closest when Petit Mouchoir finished third to*Buveur D'Air in 2017, while Identity Thief came fourth to the same horse this year.

O'Leary said: "Samcro could stay over hurdles but we could still go chasing. We've have never had a Champion Hurdle winner so it would be*great to have one of those. A definite decision will be made in the next couple of weeks."

Although O’Leary seemed to hint hurdling was the most likely plan, those with ante-post wagers for the novice chases at the 2019 Cheltenham Festival should not give up hope just yet.

"Samcro was made for chasing*and he will do it whether it is this season or next," said O'Leary. "He is a strong, powerful horse who looks every inch a chaser and I can't wait to see him jumping fences. That was what he was bought to do."*
