Arkle 2020

Looking away from the top of the market, Put The Kettle On could be an EW value play at 25/1. Sprung a surprise in the Arkle trial making all, jumping beautifully and staying on up the hill well. Think the experience around Cheltenham will stand her in good stead vs market rivals who are significantly shorter. She may not necessarily have the class to win, but I think she is improving and has every chance of hitting the frame. Added her 25/1, then cashed stake, having rethought it added again :)

I have her down as one to back (like Ornua) for Aintree. Go out in front + she'll be hard to stop. Don't get me wrong, it'll depend who shows up there but i've her marked for that.

I quite fancy her for the nov handicap chase. Has the perfect mark. But not in the betting as of yet.

The trial win must put her right on the cusp in terms of getting into the handicap for the Close Bros. I'd expect they'd take the allowance and go for the Arkle.
 
Hi all - new to the forum as stumbled across it by chance.

Guess who I like for the Arkle :)

Anyway bit of insight and my own views....Was at Fairhouse when he finished 2nd to Rubys horse (hurdle race) and overheard Ruby talking to Mullins on way into enclosure saying he thought Cash Back was the better long term prospect and could make a nice Arkle horse so I have had it in mind since.

Was happy with fences debut at Navan but then disappointed when it was pulled from Leopardstown on Stephen Day as apparently it was felt he wouldnt like taking on the front runners at that stage (or maybe WPM actually fancied his other mounts more) but Laurina obv flopped on the day and the second string was never near the front two...who knows I guess but he is most likely going to have to take on the front two (Notebook & Fakir) at Cheltenham anyway so hopefully Naas will have given him the experience needed.

Seems to go all day and the thought that he needed pure soft ground seemed to be expelled at Naas as it didnt seem to bother him. Anyway hopefully he gets a run in the Arkle possibly via Leopardstown.

get what was said earlier about it being shorter in the market with more high profile owners although they have had Cheltenham winners before even with their small string over the years...

Which were the other winners, none sprung to mind and I haven't properly looked into it, was just a generalisation!

Yeah, I did (almost reluctantly) back him yesterday as noted in the diary.


One of the horses I'm allowing myself to be swayed by others with.



Some won't like that, because as human's we have an absolute obsession with having to stick to our guns and always be right.... but I've punted long enough to know that you can make money when you're opinion is wrong :highly_amused:

I’ve bet Champ and Samcro as savers and on occasions even bet a Greatrex horse :highly_amused:

I only remember them sending over Sausilito Bay & Ebaziyan to win Supreme Novices and old Adamant Appoach having a few near misses. If there were others they dont spring to mind.
 
This race gets harder every time you look at it. Hand on heart I don't have a Scooby. All of the top 4 in the betting have pros and cons and several horses beyond that could surprise. We are less than 9 weeks away and the same could be said for the Churdle, JLT, RSA, Ryanair, Gold Cup, Triumph and Champion Chase. In any normal year we'd have clear favs by now for most of these races, but not this year. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing for punters or bookies?
 
As expected a sea of blue for Bapaume now following Kealy’s tip. A general 16/1 shot now
 
I’m going to hold off for now with Mullins runners until we see whos entered in the Arkle trial at the DRF.

Surely be a lot more informative then. I had looked at Bapaume as well but something about him I wasn’t convinced. I suppose he was one that maybe needed the run fto and seem to improve bundles on his second start winning easily over slightly shorter trip. 3rd that day given form a slight boost (albeit good tyne Tara fell).

16’s looks beat price now from 25’s.
