Arkle 2018

I think that Alan potts will have said " Arkle " and that's where F.O will go , win lose or draw .
Out of respect to Alan potts and because by all accounts he was the Man .
and what he said went .

I think it will be an open discussion and Tizzard will have a very big say in it.

They'll think hard about winning an Arkle...

I suppose until we know who takes over ownership and what there intentions are (might not care much for racing at all) it's a bit of a waste of time speculating for now.

What is the next target? Did anyone say?

I think it's more likely Cooper is jocked off than they care what he says haha

No idea what his next target is, if I had to guess I'd say the dipper novices chase in January then the Scilly isles novice chase would be logical.

There's also a 2m3 grade 2 novice chase at ascot before Christmas. The mitie Noel novices chase.

Why diddnt he go for the arkle trial today?
They paid entry when the race reopened before Mr potts passing.

...because the 2m4f race was easier....

but

it wasn't the Arkle... ;)

It wasn't easier imo. There were only 5 entries for the arkle trial thats why it reopened. No one could forsee william henry getting an injury. Not sure if theres been any news on him? If he is was going arkle you'd want a run over course and distance especially against horses you need to beat like today. That s how I'd look at it anyway but time will tell..

North hill harvey was very good there looks like hats confirmed the novices from last year aren't up to much.

Petit mouchoir.
Footpad
Sceau royal
Northill Harvey.

Brain power will come into it.
Pretty clear they are the best.

Brain Power not going to be any more effective than North Hill Harvey in my opinion.... When NHH won the Greatwood it looked like Brain Power got outpaced and ended up a distance 20L back. Open to some improvement, but if he's part of the top 5, then I wouldn't worry.

Sceau Royal is nothing special at all, Petit Mouchoir has to recover from his injury and although Footpad was the most impressive along with PM so far, beating Brelade easily isn't strong form at the moment.

I agree they are the main contenders so far, but this division is weak, weak, weak and a class horse will get away with it. If North Hill Harvey is a like contender, and Finian's Oscar can't pick him up, then I'll be a busted flush.

I'd STILL rather back Finian's Oscar at 12/1 in this market than NHH at 16 or Footpad at 6/1

Can't agree with you regards sceau royal Kev, he gave NHH 5lbs for a neck defeat.. river Wilde finished 12L in front of Elgin in last years supreme who has now won the greatwood.. NHH has given him 3lb and a spanking today.. I think to be honest there is no stand out so far and that price is key here.. love finions oscar and if the Arkle was 100% the target 12-1 would be the bet in the race at the moment.. but he wasn't stopping over 2m 4f so I can only assume it's 50/50.. if I were you I'd put my bet on FO to the back of my mind and start looking for a suitable alternative assuming FO goes JLT..

Disagree with the Footpad/Petit Mouchoir comments, my argument for Samcro was the form is irrelevant because of how he won, would apply to these 2 as well, they've done all they could for a debut over fences, regardless of who or what they beat. One race won't make their seasons, and for me you could argue for and against so many horses for their first runs of the season, Willoughby Court last season a prime example, got stuffed on seasonal debut but won the Neptune, I just wouldn't be so hasty to take seasonal debut form too literally that's all.

Finian's Oscar 16/1
Petit Mouchoir 16/1
Petit Mouchoir - Any Race 10/1
Footpad 25/1
Footpad - Any Race 16/1
Sceau Royal 33/1
River Wylde 25/1
Movewiththetimes 25/1
Shantou Rock 40/1
Capitaine 33/1
North Hill Harvey 33/1

cwright - I have backed all of the above (and Neon Wolf :() for this race... so I do completely agree I should put FO to the back of my mind and look elsewhere, but I have.... I think I just bang on about him so much because his price seems the most over priced .... I'll try and be a little more neutral from now on :highly_amused:

Yes, I agree that if I am using one rule for Samcro, I'd have to apply it to PM and Footpad... It isn't like I haven't got good prices on both, I just don't want to go over board just yet. :p

We know the ceiling of Footpad and PM's ability over hurdles. They probably have to improve, or at least be as equally as good over fences to be an Arkle winner. On first impressions, they both look like they could be.

You've got plenty covered there Kev..

I imagine it'll be a small field (less than 10 anyway) and I'd imagine I have every one backed for a no lose race.

If FO doesn't run I'll be more damage limitation in terms of losing 10 pts as a NR (plus whatever else falls away) but if he does this'll easily be an all green 'book'.

I'd imagine the reason finians went for the 2m 4 on friday rather than the arkle was to just get some experience of the course and jumping the fences at cheltenham with the comfort of doing it at a slower pace than the arkle trial. Certainly what i would of opted for having see his jumping on debut. Hopefully his next race will be over a fast pace 2 mile and id imagine we would very much see an arkle contender.

Brain Power has an entry this Friday at Ascot in a 2m 3f beginners chase, Henderson also has another couple currently entered in it too.

Sizing Tennessee in the same race, has some form with Black Corton who has been extremely solid this season so far, Sternrubin also entered currently, so could be a fair opener for Brain Power.

Could indeed be a lively opener. I felt Sizing Tennessee would have beaten Black Corton last time but for tipping up.
