Albert Bartlett Novice Hurdle 2018

Scarpeta (33/1) looks potentially interesting for this (particularly if Cartwright runs well today). Won well over 2miles at Gowran on terrible ground but will be well suited by further and better ground. His flat form wouldn't have you rushing to back him but is in good hands now and interesting. Still in the Ballymore but I think this might be the race for him.

I'd be very worried that Santini hasn't run over 3 miles. I fancy CDO out of the 2 having proven form at this trip.

I did read somewhere that they think Santina is a stayer but I totally agree it's worrying that they have not tried him over 3miles yet, I would be more happy with CDO knowing he has improved over the longer trip..

This race is a war of attrition. If CDO is in touch at the bottom of the hill I'd fancy his chances big time. I remember Henry De Brom saying about the race with reference to Monalee that he thought you had to be a proven 3 miler to win this.

Elliott on Cracking Smart:

Cracking Smart is disputing favouritism for the Albert Barlett Novices' Hurdle.

The six-year-old pushed the Willie Mullins-trained Next Destination close in a Grade One at Naas in January an a rematch could be on the cards.

"He goes for the Albert Bartlett. He ran very well at Naas behind Next Destination," said Elliott.

"Next Destination is a very good horse, but over three miles, I'm not saying we'll beat him, but I think we should get closer.

"Three miles on a tougher track like Cheltenham - I think the race is made for him."

Santini, Next Destination look the classiest two near the head of the market. I use the term classiest however probably mean "sown the most speed".

My 'profile' that I look for in a horse changed last year and I am very strongly of the opinion that I want a horse with proven 3m winning form in the book, and a good attitude to battle. That would put me off SAntini AND Next Destination. Through no fault of their own I must point out, but they haven't achieved either of the things I really, really want to see in an Albert Bartlett horse.

I think you'd struggle to pick out any previous winners that don't fit that mould.... of being proven over 3m or having a proven great attitude in a battle.

Iv'e only considered 3 for this race and permed them in multiples and exotics. those in order of confidence- Cracking Smart 14s , Next Destination 12s and more recently added Red River 14s in about 5 e/w 4folds. I think Santinis form will be boosted when he jumps a fence and his hurdling stint is a means to an end. Nicky talks him up as a Gold Cup horse.

Has anyone considered/mentioned Tower Bridge for Joseph for this race?

Tower Bridge, who also struck Grade One gold at the Dublin Racing Festival, is set to contest one of the staying novice hurdles, while Rhinestone is a potential Champion Bumper candidate.

"Tower Bridge is in the Ballymore, but we might supplement him for the Albert Bartlett," said O'Brien.

"It's probably 60-40 we'll go to the Albert Bartlett, but the ground will be the thing. If it looks like it's drying out he'll be better going three miles, whereas if it was getting softer he maybe wouldn't.

He's 16/1 NRNB - and watching that race back, he is off the bridle early and the further he goes the better he is...

He'd run in bumpers and 2m hurdle.s..shown little, stepped up to 2m4f and was beaten by Flawless Escape.... and then up to 2m6f won, beating Dortmund PArk who travelled like the winner then emptied, Fabulous Saga, Carter McKay and finished ahead of Jetz in the end.

The fancied ones didn't run their races but Jetz is a solid animal and has been beaten by Samcro and Next Destination this season.

16/1 not big enough to get involved with for me at the moment but one worth having a look at if he gets any bigger in price.... although if supplemented that is probably unlikely to happen!

JP doesn't look like having any real contender though from my quick glance through.

Anyone like him...probably a bit under the radar as it was race 1 of the Dublin Festival :very_drunk:

Hi Kev I’d my eye on him for MP. Also eligible for the 50k stable staff bonus. However I don’t think he has an entry for this.

Yes I see that - Joseph said "Tower Bridge is in the Ballymore, but we might supplement him for the Albert Bartlett,"

Have to see what his weight is I suppose... I wil lalso be looking to see what Dortmund Park gets.

He wasn’t entered in MP I couldn’t believe it! I like DP for the Albert Bartlett to be honest I just think he’ll travel all over everything. Gordon seems unsure where he’ll go at the mo.

I've got Dortmund Park backed in this as I thought he'd not get in the handicaps but just posted in the MP thread and have taken the 16s NRNB as it was 10s when I asked originally and I think he'd have a good shout.

Per twitter looked like Mullins confirmed DDG goes here.

The last race I'd have expected him in! Ran so well over 2m last time.

I'm not shocked, just hadn't considered it

I was thinking the same thing, why go back to 2m if 3m was the plan?

To have a look and see What Samcro is all about

Maybe...not sure what they'd have concluded and no matter how much they think Next Destination is better than DDG, he'd need to be WAY CLEAR to have that as a line on beating Samcro. I wouldn't take it too literally...

PP odds haven't reacted to Next Destination switching here though... still 3/1 which is by far and away the shortest. Interesting to see if that changes?

To be perfectly honest though, there are much better ways to spend our time than guessing where Mullins novice hurdlers run :)

Were there any quotes on Ballyward today?
