Albert Bartlett Novice Hurdle 2018

Yes.....

Ballyward (Albert Bartlett)

"I’d imagine he will go for the Albert Bartlett."

Not a lot to go on :p

Cheers Kev - I'm hoping it's a case of less is more :triumphant:

Well fortunately the bookies haven't taken that bullish upodate from Mullins too literally and 25/1 is still there :p

Duc Des Geniervres"He’s entered in all the novice hurdles and a few of the handicaps too. Noel Fehily rode him the last day and felt that he needs to go a longer trip. I imagine he might go for the Albert Bartlett, as that might suit his connections better than the Ballymore, but he could go for either one."

Suit his connections more?

They have Real Steel who's "confirmed" for the Ballymore
but
they have Chef Des Obeaux for the Albert Bartlett and possible Fabulous Saga... ?

There are a lot more comments from the same day which are quite a bit less commital than that sounds...

Such as Kev I'd be interested to see other comments? This is what Kevin Blake reported:

"The Ballymore looks to be the race for him. It was a messy race last time. A lot of people were saying that he wasn’t impressive, which he probably wasn’t to look at, but I thought the race itself didn’t work out like a championship race in terms of the pace. It is likely to be a different ball game at Cheltenham and that will suit him a lot better."

I honestly don't mind if he ends up here (AB) despite having a couple of points on him for the Ballymore today (not NRNB), but based on what I've seen I reckon it's got to be at least 80/20 he ends up there now. Unless Willie is having a proper wind up

i think this race goes to very untidy horses who end up just galloping on better than the others. that being said i think ballyward has a big chance. has never ran over further than 2m4f (bar a p2p) but is the furthest thing from smooth and looks like one that could just keep galloping on in a real slog of a race. mullins said at the media day that this looks to be the race for him so he must think he'll stay. 20-1 with 365 looks value to me.

I think Twitter lends itself to "headline only" news - so because he said the words Albert Bartlett, he got backed/cut for the race.... I actully would be AGAINST him in the Albert Bartlett.... for me he would not have enough experience or proof he wants to battle and there are some strong horses in the market and it looks quite deep IMO.

I'd give him a chance in the Supreme and place chances in the Ballymore though. He isn't a superstar that much is evident so I think the price he is now, is too short.

For anyone that DOES like Duc Des Genievres he's 12/1 Any Race with Coral..... (best price NRNB is Supreme 14s, Ballymore 12s and Albert Bartlett 8s)

Might be an option for someone...

Took the 75’s on offer on exchanges for the supreme, chanced it!
He’s been impressive in his last two runs against horses who will win the Ballymore and AB (Samcro and Cracking Smart for me).

Still haven't backed anything yet. Still committed to waiting for the day and backing a big priced sneaky one

Thinking outside of the box here, Brahma Bull would interest me here if turning up - Looked very good last time. Any thoughts?

Is Blow by Blow in the mix or does he go the hcp route? Chris's Dream looked good and HdB mentioned him in the same terms as Monalee for this race. Ive already got Cracking Smart and Duc D G running for me but now Im doing small stakes multi selection e/w 5 folds for fun I'm looking elsewhere for dangers. This race looks open to me now. Blow by blow / Chriss Dream are two hotpots

I would love to see Blow By Blow go for this. He looks like he wants 5 miles so the further the better. I think the Albertt Bartlett would really suit him.

Calett Mad based on that stat yesterday from the previews.

I didn't realise it was that LITERAL that the house with the most runs has won the race ... but despite the obvious talent for horses like Santini ... the 'profile' is certainly with horses like Calett Mad

I was on 33s any race but added at 40/1 nrnb with Ladbrokes too.

Apologies in advance if this one has been mentioned before but on the strength of Paul Kealy's comments last night regarding this race I got stuck into the race in some detail earlier today and came up with one of Mullins, Fabulous Saga.

11 visits to the racecourse demonstrates the necessary level of experience he was suggesting, no F's, P's or URs, three time runner over 3m winning twice including a comfortable G2 giving 8lb and a 3.5l beating to Gordon Elliot's Delta Work (now rated 139).
He disappointed in Tower Bridge's G1 Leopardstown win but may well have been feeling the effects of a long campaign or possibly Townend's riding style did not suit the horse.

I have no idea if this horse was even mentioned at Mullins open day but being able to back him at 40/1 NRNB looks to be a no brainer to me in a race I've never managed to crack, but it woudl appear I've been looking in all the wrong places before now.

Callett Mad is the buzz horse and Kealy's tip and I will cover him, but the profile of Fabulous Saga fits and 40/1 is very attractive...

Fabulous Saga was on the list of 40 horses at the media day last Monday but unfortunately nothing seemed to come out of it for him at all regarding him Ista.

The owners would look to have a strong hand in this race already if Duc Des Genievres does indeed come here alongside Chef des Obeaux so it would have been nice to get an update. Unlike DDG - this race looks like the only race he would run (only other entry is the Ballymore but would be shocked if he ended up there).

I struggle to see him overturning Cracking Smart myself but he absolutely fits the criteria

Was going to pretty much say the same thing about connections other horses, but my other reservation was that he likes to lead, and although I don't have the official statistics to hand for horses that go off in front for this race I just have bad memories, through Barters Hill, who was prominent and led for a lot of the way in this race 2 years ago, but flattened to nothing.

I'll probably check the going on the day, as just checking back to the last 5 runnings, when it was 'Good' ground the eventual winners (of their respective races) had been held up, but when 'Soft' the winners came from those up with the pace, may of course be nothing, but it interests me enough to keep an eye on the going come the day, and probably make a proper final decision then.

I've been pretty defiant about Cracking Smart winning this ever since Next Destination beat him in The Lalors Oil at Naas. People have gone into overdrive after Paul Kealy's comments last night but it's uncanny how Cracking Smart's running style reminds me of Bobs Worth, another one who went into this wthout a massive amount of experience (5 runs). The way he has to be somehwhat cajoled midway through the race and coming on strongly at the finish reminds me so much of BW also. Still remain happy with my choice.
