2026 Novice Hurdlers

It’s nothing personal at all @Yosser

I don’t think Theflyingking bets are dead just yet FYI, an entry for the G2 at Limerick would resurrect the readies, he lost nothing in defeat to I’ll Sort That who I’ve backed for the turners @ 50/1
Me neither, but the run in last time was a bit puzzling!!
Still think he’s a proper AB type horse.

Errrrrrr.... I'm not sure Sortudo is a 3 miler!

Think that should have booked him a place in the Lawlors.
Will probably follow a similar pathway as readin tommy wrong

Took a little bit of 66/1 Supreme prior to the race and Bet365 slept on it after the race had finished before cutting to 33/1. There was some minor similarities with Appreciate It who was thought of as Ballymore or further in the stable tour and what was said about Sortudo.

Whatever happened to readin tommy wrong? Didn't he win every race he ran then dissappear 2 years ago never to mentioned of again

It was definitely a run that opens up all options.
But it's really how they handle graded company that matters.
I'd be fairly sure they'd have the lawlors in mind for him, but you never know they may go for the 2 miler at xmas (appreciate it style).

He’s good anyway, put a good field to the sword very easily there, thought he jumped well in the main bar the mistake two out.

"He had very good bumper form and had schooled well at home," said Danny Mullins.

"He jumped well all through the race but was alone in front when he just had a look at the final hurdle.

"I rode him in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham when he gave me a great feel. His introduction today was over two miles and he didn't lack speed.

"He has matured well and going further wouldn't be out of the question for him either - that will be one of the usual conundrums for Willie to decide.

"You'd imagine Christmas could now be a target and that'll decide the bigger spring targets."

Willie will probably have a look at options after Fairyhouse next week.
The 2 mile maiden there is often used for his good ones, and theres also the royal bond.

Surprised Sortudo is still widely available at 33/1 for the Supreme. Danny name dropped Christmas in the post race quotes which can only mean the 2m G1. I know he has feck all to do with the decision & a lot will depend on how Fou De Toi fares in his upcoming maiden.

I know it’s very early days but Willie doesn’t look stacked with 2 milers in the market. Love Me Tender has been earmarked for step up in trip next time out.

He had a hood on today & was keen enough through the first mile of the race. Wouldn’t be shocked to see them stick to the minimum until he’s beaten.

The way the race usually pans out would suit him down to the ground.

You just get the feeling he'll have one or two better than him for the opener.

There’ll definitely be sexier profiles but I can see him being a tough nut to crack. He’s very forward for a novice and given how many of the yards debutants are needing a run you’d probably have to mark up today’s performance.

Green Splendour flopped today with plenty of market support. I know a few had him earmarked for the Albert Bartlet on here.

Really liked the performance by Sortudo, but I'm still adament he'll end up over further (despite also backing him pre-race for the Supreme).

I've re-watched the race a couple of times now, he looked OK over his hurdles, without being great. Obviously it was his first time in public over obstacles so it's fair to assume he can and probably will improve on this. It also didn't affect Kopek too much and he went on to win a Supreme.

He was also pulling away from Jalon D'Oudaries, a horse I also had down for a Bartlett, but also one that 100% would have needed that run having been off of the track for over 600 days.

I know it's impossible to make direct comparisons but Appreciate It won that race before winning the Supreme, however his hurdling that day, especially when quickening up, and also on deeper ground, was very good, compared with that of Sortudo.

I've not got Sortudo covered for a Turners, though he could go down this route, although I'm adament you need a turn of foot, and although he forged clear it wasn't through a turn of foot, IMO. I backed him early doors for the Bartlett, and this is still where I think he ends up.

One big positive for Sortudo for me at least was his ability to be in amongst horses, rather than having to lead. It gives them more options. His bumpers would have you believe he needed to be ridden prominently, either due to his own mental state or making use of his stamina, but that doesn't seem to be the case now.

Still plenty of Willie's horses to come out, but it will be interesting to see what they do with Sortudo next time out.

Another for the old Supreme and Bartlett specialist type conversation...

I'm hoping he goes Bartlett. But I'd have liked him to look slower.

Sortudo did it nicely for a horse expected to get further. Certainly didn't lack for pace anyway. Travelled well, jumped ok for hurdles debut. Only concern is how close the third was at the finish. Interested to see where he goes now but no hurry to back for anything.

One whose form got a nice boost was the HDB trained Mister Pessimistic. Won his Irish P2P with an RPR of 93 before winning a bumper on debut, beating Saint Clovis, who went to Cheltenham and won the listed bumper there a couple of weeks ago. In third was Grey Jude who re-opposed on hurdles debut at Cork, where he was beat a very similar distance in 2nd. 3rd in the hurdle was Master Haku, Those two at the weekend finished 1st and 2nd in another Cork maiden with 13 lengths back to the 3rd. Interestingly, that third was Midnight Jet also trained by HDB. He would therefore have a very good line as to how good Mister Pessimistic is. The suggestion is he wants decent ground with Leopardstown at Christmas being mentioned as his next race over 2m. Only priced up by 2 companies for the Supreme with a best price of 50/1. Three have him for the Turners with 33/1 being the best on offer. William Hill have him at 16/1 for any race. Re-watching his hurdles run he was a little keen early but hit 35 mph on the home straight and did well to pick up again after blundering the 2nd last hurdle, winging the final obstacle.
