2026 Novice Hurdlers

I don't think this matters an awful lot. If the ground is right and they are ready he'll run them.

Probably shouldn't get too caught up in where they start, after all Douvan started out at Gowran, but I'd still be hoping Fou De Toi doesn't get declared for Thurles.

Yeah I wouldnt be too hung up on it either

Plenty come through from the 'less obvious' starting points

Think the fact he's working well, they probably want to just get him out I'd say.

Fou De Toi will probably get an entry at Fairyhouse too in the maiden Ballyburn was beaten in, if they’ve one eye on the grade 1 at Leopardstown next weekend would fit in perfect with the break Willie likes to give between races.

Was anything said about Crystal D'Estruval after todays win ?
Thought Baron Noir had some very nice form from last seasons bumpers & got beaten comfortably enough today, looks a fair prospect for Derham.

Agree, Baron Noir form ties in with some good stuff.

Cristal D'Estruval (11/4) who won on his Rules debut at Warwick on Thursday. A four year old by Crystal Ocean, who won narrowly in his sole point for Colin Bowe in February, he was subsequently purchased for £400,000 at the Cheltenham Festival Sale the following month. Out of Aurore D'Estruval, who was a dual Listed winning hurdler and runner-up in the Grade 1 Fighting Fifth Hurdle when trained by John Quinn, he beat some useful rivals in the two miles maiden hurdle looking a fine long-term prospect. Making all the running under Paul O'Brien, he was challenged at the penultimate flight by warm favourite Baron Noir before pulling away on the run-in. A three lengths scorer, his trainer Harry Derham suggested afterwards that the gelding is likely to be kept to the minimum trip for the time being and will contest another novice hurdle under a penalty over the Festive period.

I haven’t been on here in a while, so I need to catch up on some reading, but what was the general consensus on Sober Glory at Chepstow?

I think the Challow is next for him, but I’d be interested in opinions on him as an Albert Bartlett type.

He was fantastic at Chepstow the other day in his maiden hurdle. He's a lovely horse who is going to get a lot further than two miles, but he did it so well, which was great to see. We'll stick to two miles as he is so effective over that distance, but we'd want to stick to a stiff track and he's particularly effective on soft ground. I think we'll target the Listed novice hurdle at Sandown on December 6 and then go from there. Like all of these novices, we'll go from race to race and work from there. I'm hoping he'll end up a horse for the spring festivals and in terms of trip I'm sure we'll end up over further, although he's got plenty of pace. He'll be a great, big staying chaser one day and he's an exciting prospect.

From the stable tour The Fellow just put up, bit more hopeful that he'll end up in the spud or Ballymore (Turners/whatever) in the springtime, have him covered for the spud race myself.

Sounds like Starzand is being aimed at the Challow and he says he wants 2m 4f so you could be on the right race there. Either way, it doesn't sound like either of them are Supreme bound

Thought about this, but at the same time thought that they're getting them out a touch earlier this year because the ground is allowing them to do so which they havent had the luxury of the past 4/5year
Yep not rocket science.
Willie ahead of schedule this season and slotting in lots of runners from his first batch.
We'll see how some of these types do later in the season with likely having had one more run by the festival than previous years

Might be wanting those early runs incase any turn out to be handicap bound, what with needing those extra qualifying runs nowdays..

Thanks for posting. I can't wait to see more of him this season.

I'd be fairly confident he's better than Starzand, but that may mean he ends up in Turners (or Supreme).

I think a fair few on here are hoping he is :ROFLMAO:
Problem with syndicate owned horses, you never know if its homework related, or that 1 person tells another they have a hair of a horse, then that person tells a friend their mate owns a share of a nice horse, then that person tells someone their friend owns a wonderhorse..and so on, those odd little punts start adding up.

12/1 TWAR the way to go with this boy I reckon. I've backed for the Supreme but, if I top up, it'll be Via that market.

Good point. Maybe right. Willie hasn't exactly been over bullish about him in any Stable Tours has he ?

He's quite exciting and looked the part when he won his bumper at Cork. Going on his home work I'd say he's more of a two-and-a-half-mile horse than a two-miler, but we'll see what happens. He's nice and I'm looking forward to seeing how high he can climb over hurdles.

Doctor Du Mesnil is a horse I have a soft spot for. He's a nice type and, fingers crossed, he should go far in the novice hurdling division. He might be a Turners horse with a bit of luck and hopefully I haven't jinxed him now.

Quite the opposite actually..

Maybe he does fancy him then !
