2026 Novice Hurdlers

Not much!!!
How do you think this forum would have reacted if he were trained by WM?
I have a rough idea!!
Agree. He'd be 7/4 fav by now if he did that in Ireland today. Only problem is, it was in Wales....😂

He was superb though. No doubt. Let's make him fav.....

I do know this, if Mossy Fen Road was trained in Ireland, with the way he won today, he'd be close to,if not, fav for the Supreme, I'm not big on the Race IQ bollocks myself, but I know when ones gone too fast, or too slow, he went too fast yet not only maintained it, he still finished his race with the tank more than half full, also he met everything on a stride and landed running everytime, was a serious performance regardless of what he beat.

….trainer said afterwards Supreme is the target, 20-1 Hills Road to Cheltenham specials.

I'm only speculating but if there was a serious issue in Willie's yard I expect we'd have heard a bit more of it by now. I reckon his novices are being left slightly short, combined with not being as good as expected

Not to say it's impossible he's a good horse, as any horse that's visually impressive could be anything.

But there's a reason horses who win like that in the UK dont go into fave as easy as irish horses do for winning maidens. The racing is absolutely atrocious. There's no substitute for actual good form. As we can see only a few days ago with mydaddypaddy. People could spend hours talking about how slick his jumping looked, how he was doing everything right, how he was streaking clear on the bridle despite jockey trying to restrain him, "imagine how much further he could have won by", and so on. At the end of the day no matter how it looks, he's beating horses that would literally be beaten 200 lengths in the supreme. Comes up against something with a pulse that puts up a fight, and he found nothing.

I don't know if you even like mydaddypaddy, just using it as an example. Irish horses who do similar to what mossy fen did in maidens, shorten because even in irish maidens your usually beating graded horses, so if you win in that style your usually dealing with a proper horse. Whereas 125 rated horses are hacking up in British maidens and looking like monsters every week.

There was a serious issue which held things up for 4 weeks in the autumn. Patrick has referenced the issue when trying to explain why so many are getting beat.

Looking forward to seeing No Drama This End again in the Challow. Slight concern about how many runs he is having but if he wins then surely Nicholls has to put him away for the Turners. It's been a long time since he had a better chance in this race. There is nothing in the market to scare him off so let's see if he still has the balls. If he avoids the race, there are no excuses for it.

Yep he certainly could be anything you are certainly right there !!
The only other uk horse that’s looked like a monster, as you put it , this season imo is OPS.
The point I was making was nothing to do with him being fav, it was more to do with the reaction on here if that had been one of the many horses trained by WM that have been the focus of the forum. All of which apparently are either not fit or maybe just not good enough?
I understand trying to find THE ONE trained by WM, but sometimes(not that often)he just don’t have one good enough and maybe it’s this season.
I prefer to concentrate on what I see and react to that. Not that many reacted to that performance yesterday hence decent prices around after the race, well decent imo anyway.
Had WM trained the horse to run and jump round Chepstow like that and finish like that, those prices would have not been there , and the forum would have been a lot busier, and a lot different posts i imagine.
Sometimes the opposition don’t matter, just look at what the horse is doing, this imo was one of them occasions.
Anyway, each to their own, but for me he’s exciting and one I really cannot wait to see next time out.

It’s possible this one is the best he’s had for a while?
Challow then Turners.
Then Nov chasing next season.
Don’t see an Aintree thing with this one, if that’s what you think might happen?

Yeah that's what i am alluding to CAT. His last good one was Hermes Allen who looked unbeatable and whilst it's difficult to compare the two at this stage, there are no Impaire Et Passes' this year, (not yet anyway) and we know he has a habit of ducking the biggest races in recent years but i also see no reason not to with this one. If he is as impressive as he has been, surely he takes his chance.

The one difference i noticed with PN before the season is that he was being quite bullish with his horses and identifying Cheltenham races for them. I don't think he did that with No Drama This End but maybe he wasn't asked. The journalists probably overlooked him........ i didn't

Would be very disappointing if he were to win the Challow with a good display and then skip Cheltenham.
He would have to do a right number on the owners for that to happen!!
But you are right to think he might, he’s done it a few times last few years!!!

That's a good point CAT. You would think Max McNeill would want to go to Cheltenham.

I think it's a bit of hindsight talk after mydaddypaddys defeat to say that old park star is the only other English novice to look a monster this season. I think he's just the one that we're yet to know how good he is. If you genuinely didn't rate mydaddypaddy in the same bracket, then fair enough, but you seem to be the minority given mydaddypaddy was half the price.

And that's the point I'm making. Mydaddypaddy literally could not have been more visually impressive than he was. He did everything well to the eye, and looked like he could have won by much further if he wanted. I wouldnt have been surprised if he was a champion hurdle horse, but also wouldnt have been surprised if he was a handucapper. As its all about what hes actually beating. He takes a rise in class, and is instantly beaten. So imo, if that can happen with him, it can happen with every British novice. We can talk about how visually impressive mossy fen looked, but it's nothing that wasn't being said about mydaddypaddy.

And I think the point about had mullins trained him to win the way he did yesterday, he'd be much shorter, isn't really true either. I'd point out le divin enfant, who beat trees by miles on first run for mullins. People realise it was a poor maiden by irish standards at a smaller track, so kept him at a decent price. Regardless of how good it looked visually. The thing is, the maidens being ran at the bigger tracks in the UK are about as strong as le divin enfants maiden, so they shouldn't be cut drastically for winning them either, just like he wasn't.

Yeah I was impressed with my paddy so I do see your point in that regard, although not as impressed as OPS and Mossy. imo OPS looks the real deal, and Mossy jumped as well as I’ve ever seen a horse jump hurdles and kept up a strong gallop all the way to the line.
Could they do the same as Paddy did next time? Yes they could, but until they do or indeed don’t, I will stick.
I will also stick with my opinion that trained by WM he would be shorter and talked about a lot more.

….Lazare de Star into 16-1 Turners. A few cutting Saint Baco on the back of it, still 20-1 available Sup and 25s Turners.
