YupHere we go. Only 2 of the last 10 winners hadn't raced at less than 2 1/2m. That includes last years winner The New Lion though last year was an exception as none of the three leading principles had form at shorter. The other was Willoughby Court who beat Neon Wolf by a head, who was a grade 2 winner over two miles.
Of the 8 to have raced at 2m 3f or shorter, they had achieved a minimum RPR of 145. 6 of the 8 had won a grade 1 or 2 at shorter, with Bob Olinger 2nd to Ferny Hollow in a maiden at 2m though won the Lawlors over 2m 4f. City Island is the only winner in the last 10 years not to have won a grade 1 or 2 over hurdles.
On recent trends you need a 2m-2m4f horse not a 2m4f-3m horse
Im sure that trend will break at some point but as it stands horses with grade 1 or grade 2 wins over shorter do exceptionally well in the turners
The 2 mile grade 1 winners have a very very high strike rate
Skylight hustle ticks all the boxes
Sober ticks most of them
Its an intruiging race, be interesting to see what runs
