2026 Champion Bumper

….Mullins re Arcadian;

‘He’s a lovely big chasing type, carries weight well and will handle this ground. He’s a horse we’re looking forward to running.’
Sounds very much like "he'll need the run and will prefer softer conditions"

Yeah, 'carries weight well' doesn't sound too promising. Strange comment. Think i will hold off until i see how the market is reacting. It was bang on today.

Market saying he's not skipped one meal over Christmas..

Bud fox entered up in next couple of days. Perhaps he might scoot up with trainer in a touch better form?

This market has been a nightmare think il just take the loss and move on

I think Mullins’ poor form should be seen as an opportunity. The horses, in general, were travelling well during the race and being ridden positively by their respective jockeys. In my view, the horses just got tired at the business end of the races. I have taken the opportunity to go in on Heldam at 66-1 and Arcadian Emperor at 33-1.

I have similar thoughts. Sixth peroni now. But worth a little punt I agree

With you here. Thought about grafting to get everything I can covered, but easier to stick a 12pt loss on the slate and be done with it.

I've a friend who the morning of the race will look through the runners, find the 2 who've posted the best times, regardless of ground, course, weight, anything else really, and he'll cover one of or both of them, he's had the winner plenty of times too, most of the time he'd do this research while we were driving to the course 😆
What I'm saying is, there's still hope to turn that 12pt loss around.

Haha. Some strategy that - but not without merit given the winner usually quickens off a gallop. You want the speedy ones.

I was in the same position last year (worse after the DRF) and scrambled to “only” lose 9pts. Swore to lay off the race this year … but those PTP horses really drag you back in!

If an opportunity presents itself, grand, but otherwise I’ll let this one go.

If Oh My Word were trained by Mullins or Elliott
Or if McManus owned him.
He would be at least half the price he is now - especially given the Xmas bumpers we’ve had so far.
His performance in the winners bumper is streets ahead of anything we’ve seen as yet.

It’s not like smaller Irish yards haven’t had recent successes in the Dublin and Cheltenham bumpers either.

Both horses that have run 2nd to him in his two bumpers are having their first starts in maiden hurdles tomorrow. Probably not all that interesting but interesting enough for me to have a little Trixie 😂

just let them go mate, you’re currently in tilt mode and a bookies dream. I know this because I’ve been there before lol. Totally agree with what you’re saying about Willies horses but these pair aren’t the ones, won’t even be running in it never mind making the frame

Let's see what Kanzler does. Think he is the last of the top bumper horses on rumours and known form.

Got 3 more from the stable written down but not backed yet so interesting to see the entries. Mighty Park was also there but is going straight over hurdles. Hardly priced up anywhere for the Supreme though so if he wins, he will enter the market sub 16/1 because of the uncertainty surrounding Willies runners. Owned by JP, he is the reason i haven't touched Davy Crockett yet however, he was given a positive word by Patrick so is probably a dud.

Worth an interest punt and a watch, thanks for the prompt Benjy

However the fact that both go over 2 1/2 miles for their first hurdle races, does that put a question mark over the Oh My Word form ie beating two stayers, rather than 2m speedsters?

Yea, the first bumper form looks weak enough so far as well. But worth an minor interest punt for a potential way into the bumper. Not like the two today are short prices.

….PP offer Bud Fox WTAF 50-1.
