2026 Champion Bumper

Unsure where Oh My Word has gone to, but noticeable that when I looked through the likely runners in Dublin.
Only one Mullins horse is entered.
Gordon has three but one was previously with another smaller trainer.
Charismatic Kid.
Looks like Giigginstown have bought it, and it's particular interesting because it beat one of Elliotts other runners With Nolimit (won next time) easily when trained by Colm Ryan.
Definitely looks the best of Gordons 3 anyhow

….33-1 PP/SB, might get nibbled when others notice.

small correction, gordon has four entries, forgot broadway ted who won at ayr

No keep him company a slight surprise? Given so short in the bumper market?
Possibly, although Gordon has often put horses away that have won bumpers and doesn;t always run his best at Dublin.
Hard to say how he ranks them this year and his title aspirations may change some of his routines

I think Q is on the right lines here. Keep Him Company has already won two bumpers - reckon he’s booked his ticket to Cheltenham. One of the horses he beat (giving him 2lbs) Generous Risk is entered at DRF so could well be using the race to work out their pecking order.

….P Mullins;

The bumper team have also turned a corner of late and The Irish Avatar makes his debut for the Gigginstown team in the closing Racing Again February 8th (Pro/Am) Flat Race at Fairyhouse on Saturday.

“He’s a nice, big, light-framed horse by Poet’s Word who was second in his point-to-point. I think Navan will suit him; he’s a big, long-striding horse with a high cruising speed rather than one with a sharp turn of foot.

“Obviously Gordon (Elliott) has one in there for Gigginstown too, and I hate taking on Gordon at Navan. It’s a home game for him and an away fixture for us. It makes life hard, but I’d be expecting this fellow to be bang there.

“We’ve got stuck into the bumper horses since Christmas, done a few sharp bits of work with them and woken then up. They’re more aware of what their job is now, and we’ve seen that on the racecourse in the last week or so.

“Hopefully the bumper brigade can keep rolling.”

I’m still wading through drf entries so a bit behind atm. I liked the way he won and considering him for this at 16s. Just haven’t pulled the trigger yet. This season is turning out to be a rollercoaster already!

That third paragraph seriously irks me every time he says it, if anybody here knows him in any way can you tell him to stop saying it 🤣

Home game and away game, it's a fucking race track just like any other. There's no raucous home support chanting intimidating stuff trying to get in mullins horses and jockeys heads. If irish avatar is better than elliotts horse on every other track, then it'll be better at navan too 🤣

Does he write this?

I doubt it. He gives some info in a brief phone call, or someone from the yard does, and then one of the journalists puts something together which now gets smoothed by AI hence ending up like rubbish like this.

Prove me wrong anybody?

Any love for bentraghill?
Put him in a couple bets last week and see he’s entered at DFR
I’m clueless this year, but couldn’t resist having him in a Wednesday lucky 15

Yep, a little bit of love. Backed him today in a little Trixie but , like everyone else, no idea how he measures up re the rest. Patrick said he has showed plenty at home and his point to point run (3rd) has obviously worked out very well with Lazare De Star 2nd and Royal Gladiator 4th both franking the form over Hurdles and at what looks a good level.

Just noticed the entries of the DRF Future Stars Flat Race.

The race was run for the first time in 2018 and since then 6 winners of the race have gone on to run in the Cheltenham Bumper.

Those six finished 5th, 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 1st, 1st.

What a spectacular record!

Willie Mullins ONLY entry is Bentraghhill.

Based on the above stat alone , I make Bentraghhill a great bet for the Festival Bumper @ 12/1 and have backed accordingly.

Haven't got him in the book yet but may contemplate taking a WTAF price dependant on what is is.

Not given up on what they thought was one of their best was though, Heldam.

Expect him to appear end of this month, early into Feb and lay his marker down. They're firing in bumper winners now too, so like to think will win his maiden well enough to contract plenty.

The bumper market is one full of questions at the minute

Quiryn 12/1 - will they go as a 4yo? Big ask - hopefully find out soon.
Bentraghill 12/1 - one of the form horses you'd say
Oh My Word 14/1 - unlikely
Keep Him Company 16/1 - looked a dour stayer to me, will he be able to keep tabs on the principles
Bass Hunter 16/1 - races like a dickhead, if he does that @ chelt, he'll not get up the hill
Wyoming Line 20/1 - not been seen yet, p2p form franked
Its only a Game 25/1 - likely NR
Kanzler 25/1 - not seen yet
Love Sign Daunou 25/1 - had a few entries but yet to take up 1
The Mourne Rambler 25/1 - money was down @ xmas, benefited from cityofblindin racing like a nutjob
Look Me 25/1 - sales bumper form been let down badly since
Katkoriko 25/1 - OFTS
The Wager 25/1 - eventually got on top the other day, but didn't look champ bumper material to me
Saint Clovis 25/1 - course form, but looks to be turning out to be a weak race

Good write up.

I was also tempted to wait for the WTAF price on Bentraghhill but noticed he's been nibbled at recently with a few so can see there being a bit of a run on his price especially when the DRF sole entry gets a bit more widely put out there .

Have watched his race back again and he quickened up really well with just a flick of the whip and squeeze by Jody then hands and heels to the line. Looked quite a strong race as well with others well touted.
