2025 Novice Chasers

'I know there are mitigating factors with no graded Turners this time and Slade Steel really being a 2 and half mile hurdler'

Yep, that's two of the reasons. Plus same owner's Irish Point to Arkle, RB saying he's a Gold Cup horse and avoiding Ballyburn again potentially.

Apart from that he'll go to the Arkle :biggrin-new:

It's a fucking huge leap to think the Grade 1 winning 3 mile (less a few yards) hurdler from last year is going to be a 2 mile novice chaser and the Supreme winner is going to be a 3 mile novice chaser. :biggrin-new:

You'd think the reverse would be more likely...

Last horse to win Supreme and run in following RSA/ Banc
is?

Fiddlerontheroof? Mind you, there’s a very significant difference this year with the Turners no longer being an option for the better animals.

Yep. Game changer along with NHC.

I'd be cautious about backing anything from The Supreme as the ratings for the race were well below the norm. I think we may have a few surprises in the novice chases this year.

Asian Master is one i have in mind. Willie said last season 'He is going to make some novice chaser next season'

Fiddler got well beat in the Supreme.
I don’t recall any Supreme winner stepping up to the RSA even before the Turners existed, but maybe someone does?

Yep, makes much more sense

Back in Front, although he won the Supreme and raced in the RSA 3 years later. Doesn't really count though. Don't think there is one who did it the year after.

I get what Lobos is saying though. Slade Steel is potentially a bit of a special case but it flies in the face of Henry De Bromhead's usual modus operandi. FWIW i don't have Irish Point written down anywhere. I had him in mind for the Turners but now i don't see him at Cheltenham at all.

Makes for a interest season with Turners now a handicap

Will any of the supreme lot go banc

Will any struggle in grade 1 novice company over fences and get a tasty mark go the revised turners

was the supreme and Ballymore weak renewals (depth wise) which will lead us to a winner that was a handicap over hurdles, or could a 5 year old win it (ex-triumph)

Been thinking about which horses will probably fall short of the G1 standard and could end up being campaigned out the telly for a mark under 145 for the new turners, came up with

MIstergif
Jango Baie (wouldnt be like hendo albeit)
Predators gold
Asian Master

And same for the new NHC
Chapeau De soleli
Quai De bourbon
Spanish Harlem
Spread Boss Ted
Yeats Star

I think for anyone (not me) who backed a horse like Jeriko du Reponet with B365 or PP have a nice free bet as he looks the ideal type for the new Novice handicap.
Obviously he might excel over fences and improve too much but his connections will not be slow to react if they think the handicap is his best option.

Might even be undercooked for his debut like a lot of JP's horse tend to be.
JP looked like he had it right off last year with the Kim Muir horse, and the 2 novice chasers in particular.
Pretty sure Mullins didn't want Fact to File in the RSA.

Mullins will struggle to get one low enough and good enough I reckon.
Elliot might have a better chance but even he will find it tough.
Definitely one of the reasons they've made the change, and why the Irish are moaning about the changes and the UK trainers largely welcoming them.

Not sure the new Turners is definitely a 0-145 either, has this been confirmed ?
They've said Ltd Handicap. But not given more detail as far as I've seen.

My memory is Henderson regularly had one plotted for the old Novice Handicap, but I've not gone back and looked.

Slade Steel would have went Ballymore if Ballyburn went supreme

with the turners changing, we could see the supreme horse in the Banc

Very good point and why would they not avoid him again should Ballyburn go Arkle? SS may well go Arkle but surely he's worth a saver in the BANC ? If they said he was heading that way he'd be near fav so his current huge price is a stand out imo and totally wrong.

Thought he ran a brilliant race in the Champion Hurdle so the Arkle would have to be on their radar should he go chasing.

Wonder if they give Hiddenvalley Lake another crack at chasing?
